My property tax bill came a while ago and I couldn't believe the cost, just about $500. Now that my boat is over a year old I would think that it would be worth significantly less than I paid so I gave the county a call. After a brief discussion with somebody in the marine division of the county assessor's office they reduced the tax bill by more than $100.

Check your tax bill, don't be bashful to give them a call if you think they have your boat's value overstated.

Am I missing something? What does your property tax estimate have to do with the value of your boat?

Tax is a % of value, at least in Ca.

The "property" tax is really meant as personal property; boat, airplane, etc.

My tax bill from Nevada county always shows the NADA value (low retail), and they don't add "extras" up from the base model.

My tax is based on $31k, but with extras, NADA puts it at $36-41k.

Its not too late. Just file for a lower valuation/dispute on the last payment and if successful they will refund the difference. Go online to find the form. They will call you to settle on a value. I was able to walk the adjuster through lower NADA value over the phone and reduce the tax.

Dave,
I am sorry I meant the tax form I did a Google search and came up with roughly thousands of listings but can not find the state form. I live in San Bernardino county if that matters.

Thanks again
