I was thinking about building a floating slider as a winter project, and being that I have no experience on a slider would it be easier to learn on a box or should i just go with a rail? If I do build this thing it will be 40 to 50 foot and it would be a rainbow type rail or just a flat box. Any advise would be appreciated.

a rainbow rail will be easier for you to learn how to ride and build. first you can ride onto it or ollie onto it once you figure it out(shouldnt take more than a few tries to learn). also if you have any experience building things builing a rail rather than a wide box will be way easier especially since its going to have an up and a downhill to make it a rainbow. one thing to think about though if your building a floatable slider is how heavy it will be especially if you will be pulling it out of the lake. happy building

I think a short, wide, flat box, (about 2-3 ft) would be better for a beginner. It leaves more room for error, and you could build a little incline at the front to help you up. And once you get it down, you could do a lot of tricks on it, and it should be all around easier. But i've only every hit sliders in a cable, boat could be different. On the flip side, i think a rail would make you a "better" rider, because you will have to be more accurate.
