I'm getting ready to purchase a 12in Kicker Solobaric for my 05 Tige 22v. I will be installing it in the kick panel. It will be in a vented box.

With that said, I have no idea if I should get an L5 or an L7. I haven't had the opportunity to hear either in a marine, open-air type environment...so I haven't a clue which is the best choice. Is there a general consensus on which of the two is preferred?

Overall, the stereo system will be fairly basic. 1 pair of Wetsounds pro80s on the tower pushed by a kicker zx650.4 (bridged). For now, stock Clarion cabin speakers pushed by a small amp (potential for upgrade down the road, but not currently planned).

Any suggestions, thoughts, etc. will be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

I have an 02 L5 with an old punch 500 pushing it and it pounds! Right now you can get a new 02 L5 on ebay for under $100 shiped.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Is there anyone here, or is there anyone here that knows someone that is running a 15in solo? As I price them out, there isn't a huge diff in cost (or not as much as I expected). I just worry about it being overkill.

Thoughts?

go with the 15in L7 or 12in, imo L7's are very underated.. with the right power they will freakin pound..

I have a L5 in our boat and it sounds great. The only way you'll get anymore out of the L7 than the L5 is if you push a lot of power to it. So depending on how much you want to spend I would go with the L5. Sounds great and will save you a little money.

If you do happen to go with the L7 push it hard.

even kicker should tell you, if you dont have the perfect amount of power to the L7, dont use it, the L5 will work better, let me know if you need a price on one

The L7 is a 750 watt RMS sub. Kicker has a 750.1. Would that not be the perfect amount of power, or would that under power the L7?

Send me a price: contactjeff@cox.net

Jeff I have Kicker ZX750.1 which the birthsheet shows 1087 W. It pounds my L5.

I have 2 L7's in my boat and they rock. I'm happy with them, but I've never listened to the L5 for comparison...

good luck

JT you want more power than the RMS. I am sure you will never use all of the power but will be able to run the Sub hard without the Amp overheating.

I am running 1500.1 with my L5 15"

I have one L5 12" with the kicker ZX750.1 and the amp is also rated over a 1000 watts on the certificate it came with. It hits very hard. I am happy with it so far.
