Ben- Great job on the boat.....Did you take any pictures of all the plastic rings you made? As cool as the video is, I think most viewers will have NO idea how much work you and your team put into those rings and their install....That will be crazy out on the Delta this summer.

So, when are you gonna start selling those to everyone?

Cheers

Thanks everyone for the compliments. I am very happy how the system turned out and was glad to find out that almost everything worked as planned. If you notice in the video the exterior zone (tower, F&R vents and the wakesetter logos on the outside of the tower) were only able to do green and blue or a combination of the two. One of the controllers had a bad output for red and will be replaced soon. My favorite part was the ice chest and the Malibu logo on the back seat. The system has about 45 feet of waterproof RGB LED strips, 2 Controllers, 100 feet of CAT3 wire and lots of acrylic. The interior zone (cup holders, ice chest, inside wakesetter logos, and Malibu logo on back rest are) can be controlled independently of the earlier mentioned exterior zone. The exterior zone is controlled via wireless RF remote and has an audio mic that will allow the lights to vary with the music. The interior zone is controlled by a plate mounted near the driver.

Interior Zone Modes:
01 Static Red (Brightness is Adjustable)
02 Static Blue (Brightness is Adjustable)
03 Static Purple (Brightness is Adjustable)
04 Static Green (Brightness is Adjustable)
05 Static Yellow (Brightness is Adjustable)
06 Static Cyan (Brightness is Adjustable)
07 Static White (Brightness is Adjustable)
08 Three Color Flash (Brightness and Speed are Adjustable)
09 Seven Color Flash (Brightness and Speed are Adjustable)
10 Three Color Fade (Speed is Adjustable)
11 Seven Color Fade (Speed is Adjustable)
12 Red Flash (Brightness and Speed are Adjustable)
13 Blue Flash (Brightness and Speed are Adjustable)
14 Purple Flash (Brightness and Speed are Adjustable)
15 Green Flash (Brightness and Speed are Adjustable)
16 Yellow Flash (Brightness and Speed are Adjustable)
17 Cyan Flash (Brightness and Speed are Adjustable)
18 White Flash (Brightness and Speed are Adjustable)
19 Red/Blue Fade (Speed is Adjustable)
20Blue/Green Fade (Speed is Adjustable)
21Green/Red Fade (Speed is Adjustable)

Exterior Modes:
01 Static Red (Brightness is Adjustable)
02 Static Green (Brightness is Adjustable)
03 Static Blue (Brightness is Adjustable)
04 Static Yellow (Brightness is Adjustable)
05 Static Cyan (Brightness is Adjustable)
06 Static Purple (Brightness is Adjustable)
07 Static White (Brightness is Adjustable)
08 Three Color Flash (Brightness and Speed are Adjustable)
09 Seven Color Flash (Brightness and Speed are Adjustable)
10 Three Color Fade (Speed is Adjustable)
11 Seven Color Fade (Speed is Adjustable)
12 3 Color Audio (Color Changes With Frequency Brightness Changes With Volume)
13 7 Color Audio (Color Changes With Frequency Brightness Changes With Volume)

The interface is very easy. The picture of the controller below shows that it is just a matter of selecting a mode and then setting the speed. In the video I had it set to be very fast to show the capability of the system. Slowing the speed down can help eliminate any "seizure" effects. Many of the modes are the same on the two controllers so synchronizing them is possible if you get the timing right but there currently is not a way to link the zones together (possible with 3 relays).

You guys keep me in a good mood all the time when I read this forum... "Club Malibu".. "goth and raver chicks with glowsticks".."guidos and guidetttes of Jersey Shore".. "most pointless thing in the world but wow that is so awesome at the same time".. "let a fella catch up".. Great quotes.

Song on the video: Spencer & Hill - Finally Housebeat
Scott- I'll need to check with Dave before I start selling my rings on here.
Richard- After your Clear Lake trip on Shawn's V215 I don't think you will be able to resist coming to see me. Look for a new thread soon.
Grant- I already know to expect next level stuff from you. I can't wait.... to have my own boat to catch up to you with.

I know I already posted but DAMN Ben everything you do even beyond stereo is just so damn clean and proffesional. Kudos!

That Wakesetter is super sick! All that lighting pretty much would make you only wanna be out at night.

Adam - Most LED lighting jobs are 150-5000.
Nate - Good to see you on here. Hope the Sanger is doing well. Jim's X-45 is pretty insane. I am looking for a LSV but this is not mine.
Ian - I started receiving product for your boat. The MB will be getting the true CA treatment before heading out to you.
Hate - Thanks for the props man. Good looking slumped pictures of your boat you have been posting.

Jeff - I don't mind being busy 6 days a week right now and staying late to get things done. I still have Sundays to get out as long as I don't break a rib. Now once the days get long enough for rides after work it might be a different story.

Happy Easter Buddy ......

Ben, you mind sharing where you got the LED's and controller from?

I emailed Superbright the other day about their RGB stuff, and they really wouldn't recommend cutting the strip into sections. I told them I've been soldering for 17 years and they said they've had people that have done it for longer that had trouble. I assume the leads where you'd solder are really close together. I'm looking to do the interior of my boat similar to this but haven't found anything other than the superbright stuff just yet. I'm setup with Mouser but haven't tried them out yet.

John,

What I see at "oznium" are what they call the "Million Color" LED's, and they DO have a couple RGB controllers, like this one:

http://www.oznium.com/freedom-rgb-controller

Different from superbright - but might work.

Todd

Todd they don't have any "Million Color" flexible LED strips.

Here ya go Jon. They have them as "million" color.

You did, and I appreciate it. I may opt for some of the 6" ones for now to see how well this project would work.

Anyone else?
Old     (mikeski)      Join Date: Aug 2003       04-05-2010, 7:08 PM Reply
Hit up Grant he has a good source. I had nothing but troubles with the RGBs I sourced from Oznium, luckily they took all of them back.
Old     (johnny_jr)      Join Date: Mar 2006       04-06-2010, 9:05 AM Reply
PM me I have a line on very, very low cost RGBs from HK. Have 5 reels arriving early next week to sample them. They are coated to hold up in a wet application.
Old     (soundbox)      Join Date: Oct 2007       04-06-2010, 3:52 PM Reply
John - I have had really good luck with all of Oznium.coms products. For this boat I had to have the controllers built because they both use wireless RF remotes and I needed to have different frequencies for them to operate independently. Although the product I used were excellent I wouldn't recommend the source.

We had no problem cutting the reels to length and soldering the RGBs. This Malibu has 84 solder connections to the RGBs (not including controllers or cable runs) w/o any problems.

Johnny - I would be interested to hear your feedback on the reels you have coming in.

Sent you a pm Ben.

A little more on the RGB qualities. The particular RGBs I was using from Oznium had the resistors soldered lengthwise, the ones that Ben is using have the resistors soldered widthwise. When you are wrapping cupholders you must use tape with widthwise resistors or they will pop the solder joints from the bending as you wrap them around the cupholders. I was having my issues with products from two years ago. At that time I could not find other options. Also my speaker fixtures were designed for the narrower single color LED strips.

Notice the little black square going up and down on this tape, that's the resistor, it needs to go up/down not side to side.

i sure wish you guys would give up your distributors for these LED's and controllers. I'm kinda scared to spend $200 on a reel of RGB's and more on a controller if they're not proven.

As posted by Grant today:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got the RGB's from a guy in San Jose. The company is called Vas-tech 408 786 7699 The guy's name is William. !!!!!Disclamer!!!!
IMO if you know your stuff then getting product from William is cool otherwise go with a company with customer support. I know my way around LEDS pretty good and with William there is NO CUSTOMER support. If you have a problem your own your own. Don't expect a owners manual or how to or anytype of help if your stuck or need a return your S.O.L. It works for me because he is local and I can work around problems that the average guy cant. I wish I could give him 2 thumbs up to my wake world peep's. So if you get stuff and you have a problem you have been warned. I wish there was a more user friendly RGB led product / supplyer.
