My wife and I are looking to find our first wake boat. We’re gonna need to stay under $25,000. Our first priority is wakeboarding. So we’re looking for a good wake. But we’d like to do a little wakesurfing for fun too. Any good suggestions? And what all to look out for?

At that price, you can't go wrong with a 2001-2005, (06-07 if you can find it in that price range) Malibu that's been kept clean. If you're on choppy lakes I would find something with a deep V hull though. Those year Mallibus were brutal in chop & easy to dunk the nose, but I've been out in 6' swells & was able to get us back safely so not all bad.

Gen1 Xstar can be had for that price. Properly weighted it throws a very good wakeboard wake and can even surf in a pinch. Here's a couple from Onlyinboards.

I loved my 2003 Malibu VLX. They can be had for around 25K. I rocked mine no wedge, 750s in the rear full, center tank full, 1000lbs triangle in the nose. It was great.

Tige 21v throws a good wakeboard wake and if you get into surfing throws a great Surf wake for that era of a boat and feel bigger than the X-Star and Malibu’s of the same era.

Granted my understanding is no wake compares to a sacked out XStar for wakeboarding.

I’ve ridden behind quite a few Wakesetters in the 2001-2005 range and love them. Never really ridden behind and X-star and I don’t think ever an air Nautique, Supra, centurion, or tige. We will be on quite a semi busy lake “tablerock”. Also we won’t be buying the boat till this coming winter. I’m going we can get a better deal at that time?

You can also get into a decent shape 2001-2004 Super Air 210 for that budget range. Best bang for your buck IMO. Good luck on your winter purchase and keep us posted on what you end up getting.

That 07 above is a great deal. I'd pass on the sunsetter below it though, I believe that has the ski hull

Absolutely, I will keep you guys posted. By far the biggest purchase I’ve made but it will be worth it.

Rare boat but ready to go. If you talk to anyone that has owned one they have no complaints.

Sanger V215 or v230 are both great options in your price range.
