My computer build

This will be used alot for video editing. In a few days i will be ordering these components.

I plan to install the OS on the rapture and RAID0 the 120 GB SATA hard drives. I already have these- Pioneer A-05 dvd burner, WD 120 GB hard drive, logitech mx duo(cordless optical mouse and cordless keyboard), Logitech z-560(speakers), Sennheiser HD-212s(headphones)
Does it look like i'm missing anything? Any comments? I figure they're are some editors out there that know a thing or two bout puters.

ya the cartview didn't work jeremy. most importantly, how much ram? i have a gig in mine and its still not enough. and for renders, cpu speed is key as well of course...

Way not to skimp on the good stuff.

My only suggestion is nothing goes with a intel processor like a Intel Board. D875PBZ would be the option. Abit is good stuff though.

good ram choice.

I have 1 gig of the corsair ram (XMS series) and it kicks a$$!, but it's not enough.... I'm running After Effects and I would suggest as much memory as you can afford! (deepstructure feels my pain...)

Plain and simple, when it comes to video editing with After Effects you just can't get enough of RAM or CPU!

Everything else looks rock solid. I agree with JZwake, but I prefer the asus motherboards... The NEW Asus P4C800-E-Deluxe is only a few dollars more and rock solid!

If you've never built a computer before and want to avoid hours of potentials frustration, then you should check out http://www.monarchcomputer.com I priced out my entire system at newegg and was going to build it myself then I found monarch. They were only $40 more (didn't have to pay sales tax). They slapped everything together, ran the cables all nice and neat (zip tied everything) and they burned it in. Got the machine, loaded the OS, programs and it has been running ever since without and problems.

Two monitor setup is key!!! Once you go with two monitors you'll never go back.

Oh yeah, 350W power supply is ok, but you may want to think about a 450+, especially if you start adding more drives, cards, etc....

Yes i have built a computer before. I like to, but thanks for the link. You probably bought your OS with your computer so they could install it. I already have mine so they wouldn't be able to do that anyway.
As far as the case. I agree. I am still looking for one i like that has a higher PSU and isn't a million dollars. Looks like i'll buy the case and PSU seperate.
HOPEFULLY i'll get to order this stuff tommorow.

Actually Monarch did the burn-in with the OS, but they sent it totally clean (saved myself $200 that way). Took almost the whole weekend to install XP, Premiere, After Effects, update all drives, all the XP patches, blah, blah...

What kind of NLE (video editing program) are you using?

Sweet case. I'm going to check out that site right now.

At the moment i use Pinnacle Studio 8. I also have Premiere 6.5 and Vegas 3.0 but Pinnacle is so easy to use i just can't seem to stop using it. Even though it's limiting me. I do have the hollywood effects for Studio 8 which are nice, and easy to use. I want to start using something more in depth but it seems that i don't have the time to learn anything.(3 kids,soccer coach, girlscout leader, yes i said GIRLscout leader.) Everytime i sit down to try and use premiere 6.5 i get frustrated.
I have also read good reviews on Pinnacle edition pro. I might try and download the trial version. I might be able to get used to it easier cause it's from pinnacle, and i'm used to that. Either way it won't be long before i start using something else.
Have you tried anything other than premiere?

I learned on premiere and after effects with some exposure to final cut pro.

I've never tried Vegas, but I've heard a lot of good things about it... especially v4.

Premiere has a slow learning curve, but once you get it down it's easy. Then it's time to learn After Effects (AE) and start the frustration all over again... hehehe.

2.8 with HT and 1 gig ram will be just fine for what you have listed above. If you ever decide to get into AE, just add another gig of memory and you'll be set.

Since i posted last, I have downloaded the trial version of Pinnacle edition and uninstalled it a couple of days later. I played with it for a couple of hours. I think i would really like it. The problem was the program just stopped being able to open. I don't know if it was because it was a trial version or what. Anyone have any views on pinnacle edition or pinnacle liquid edition?

Also, after installing the demo, my hollywood effects in studio 8 are gone! Oh well, i'm gettin MY NEW COPUTER SETUP friday!! So i'll be reinstalling everything anyway. Although it does suck not to be able to use them on the wedding video i'm working on right now :-( Speaking of the wedding video i'm doin. Try making a title with the name Subramaniam Ranjiv look good on the screen.

Western Digital, I cant count how many times that type of drive has failed on our servers and PC's. My advice would be to stay away from those, they are notorious for crashing.

I have 2 WD drives right now, a 40 gig and a 120 gig, and have had no trouble(knocks on wood). I did end up gettin 2 160 gig maxtor drives for my RAID0 setup though.

I just recorded my first episode of Punk'd on the computer last night. I'm lovin the All In Wonder Radeon 9800 pro. It's pretty cool. You can use live tv for your desktop backgroud.

400 gigs of WD 8mb drives... no problems either.

350 is skimpy for PS....also whats with the 17 inch monitor??

I have a similar setup, It is a monster. I would also get a few more fans, rendering is real intensive and creates heat.

Nick- I should have watercooled. That damn proc. fan is to loud. I have it on a variable speed controller but to keep it as cool as i want it it's still to loud. As far as gettin 80 gig drives instead of the 160s. That just wouldn't have had enough storage for me. For the price. Yes You can hook up two monitors to the 9800 pro with a splitter.

Rich- Yes 350 is skimpy exspecially cause it's just a generic psu. That was one thing i was asking about. I haven't had any problems yet(knock on wood!) OH and the 17" vga monitor is my old monitor. Ran out of money.
