well, if you watched roddys vid, its pretty obvious we need to ditch the point and shoot and get something a little nicer. any suggestions? looking for something around $1000, new or used, preferably hd, but whatever works...

were hopefully gonna go half and half on whatever we find, so your input would be awesome.

Check Out http://reviews.cnet.com/camcorders/ Its got a ton of reviews on all sorts of camcorders. It also includes a list of reputable merchants to buy from.

under $1000, go with Canon.

if you're OK with tape the HV30 is currently the best quality camera under $3000. It's currently being replaced by the HV40 and can be found for around $560.

If you prefer tapeless (I personally don't like the AVCHD codec) the HF11 ($850) is getting good reviews although Canon just introduced the HF S10 which is the 1st AVCHD cam I've actually been interested in.
