Looking for recommendations on a 5 channel amp to power 4 cabins speakers and 1 10" sub.

Looking at these models.

I am not really convinced I need to buy a marine amp because where I am mounting the amp will never get wet unless the boat sinks. I would like the amp to run cool although I doubt it will be pushed that hard.

Definitely go alpine pdx.

The digital class amps run cooler, consume less amperage, and push constant power across different ohm loads.

I just redid my stereo with 2 Alpine pdx's.

That being said, if you want a Marine amp, go with teh PDX 5m.

I opted to go with a non-marine, and got the PDX-V9 for the same price as the 5m. The V9 is a beast, at 4x100 and 1x500.

Check ebay for new PDX amps. I think you can beat those prices you posted.

Why not this:

I have this and it's a pretty good amp. Very comparable power specs to the others, marine rated and a lot cheaper.

Alpine has discontinued their marine line if that has any bearing on your decision.

Second........you can save yourself a ton of cash and open your options by running a 4 channel amp to power 4 cabins and a 10 sub. What kind of speakers/rms wattage do you need? And what sub/rms wattage as well. 5 channel amps are very limited and cost a bit more . In most "standard" cases a decent 4 channel is a better route to save cash and get you good rms power for 4 cabins and a 10inch sub

I did consider this. I like Polk in fact I'm going with Polk db651 cabin speakers and Polk sub. I don't need the best of the best. I just want good sound.

Where is the advantage of this amp over the other amps for being a LOT more expensive? $700 vs. $290 is a huge price difference for a few watts in power difference.
