Old    weekends            09-04-2001, 11:26 PM Reply
How long did u peeps wakeboard until you started getting more advanced tricks? I want to know if i'm ahead/behind/whatever with the average "curve" or whatnot.
I've been wakeboarding one month (weekends) and I can do: sideslide, toe/heelside wake2wake, surface 180, and a really bad bunnyhop.

Thanks.
Peace,
Ittai

It all depends on how much guts you have. Try harder tricks every time you go out. I know guys that have ridden for years, but every time they go out they just do the same thing. They dont t do inverts, and they havent done anything new in years. It is an easy habit to fall into. Have a few ttricks in your mind you want to try, and try them a few times each time you go out. Typically after a hard fall, people get scared of that trick or falling in general. Dont let it scare you.

You are doing good for 1 month, but your progression depends on your willingness to take a few knocks and learning it. You are gonna take some spills trying backrolls now, and you will take some spills trying them in a year. Try it now and learn it, dont wait for the fear to go away, because it doesnt.

yeah i totally agree. ive had my fair share of spills trying my backroll but i keep doing them. the more you try the better you get and the more you progress. i progress every single time i try them. you can just feel yourself getting better. i have a friend who is afraid of doing anything except 180's and surface tricks and every single time he falls he lays in the water and says hes hurt and doesnt want to go again. he hasnt progressed hardly at all because he wont let himself progress. its a mind game i swear. as long as you try and give it your all then you will progress at a speedy rate.

I'm not really afraid of falling... I can do just about every wakeboarding trick on the ground with out a wakeboard... backflip, backflip with a 360 (whirlybird), 720, 900, 1080...
If i can try a backflip on solid ground... yeah... knowing that motivates me... Thanks. I'm going out again this weekend. I'll go for 180s... and height... lots and lots of height. maybe a 360 if I feel crazee.

Peace,
Ittai

hey ittai, personally...i cant do a 3 to save my life. i cant get the damn handle pass. i started trying my backroll before i did anything else. i got the 180's down pretty easily...i can do a hs 180, ts 180, ollie 180, and halfcab (switch 180). after i did all those i started with the mexican backroll that consists of riding up the wake and getting an insane pop and pulling on the rope really hard and throwing your body forward and basically doing a front flip. its pretty easy especially for those of us who have had a trampoline throughout their life and have done flips and are confortable with them. give it a shot...oh and bring a video camera if you can it helps sooooo much. its also fun to watch your sefl bust your ass. hope that helped. later.

I've only been doing this for a little while. But lately I've been working on my progressive edging, then once I start feeling like i'm getting good pop, I have 4 or 5 tricks I want to try. Lately it's been a hs 180 to blind, a ts/hs 360 and back roll.

I'me real close to landing the spins, I can see the landing and have the handle. I guess the point is, the more you try things, the easier they get, they don't seem so fast, and you get comfortable to where you are in realation to the water.

I have been into wakeboarding since I was 11 (17 now) and I used to just ride. Back in the day, I just rode the wake but this taught me killer balance. About 2 years ago, I started hitting the wake big time. After those two years of practice, I'm ready to hit the tournaments this summer. Just keep with it, and go big time. Backrolls will come soon. Just get the basic inverts and its easy sailing from there. Hope to see yall at some tournaments soon.
