This is what happens when the lake level is very high, due to all the rain we got in Texas and when you are riding an 07 Transcend with all that POP.

The rider is doing as well as he could be at this point and says he will be back on the board as soon as he is able to walk again.

The quality of the vid is not the best, it was shot on a camera phone, they were not thinking anything like this was going to happen.

WARNING, KIND OF A GRAPHIC VID, SOME MIGHT NOT WANT TO WATCH!!!!!

That's crazy. Does he usually do that under the bridge when the water is lower? That would have really blown if it would have taken your tower and the rider. What injuries were sustained?

sue the bridge! it really shouldn't be in your way like that

Yes, hes been riding that spot for 10yrs and never came close to the top, he was not on my boat.
He Messed up his leg a knee really bad, went through a couple surgeries and lost some muscle in his leg. Doc said he will never ride again, but he disagrees with the doc, he has already been wakesurfing on his A$$, still in a full soft cast, but doing really well for what happened, he is a fearless, tuff kid, thats for sure!!!

Wow, that's crazy! I can't believe that you'd do that even when the water is low. I wish him all the best!

That is terrible why would you ever want to take that risk?

I know that they did Raleys under a bridge in Spray I think? But the bridge in Spray was way way higher. Made for a cool perspective, but no actual danger of hitting the bridge.

I'll go ahead and say it since I'm the biggest A-hole on this site, you forgot stupid!!

You have to use a little common sense when riding. I guess this is just Natural Selection in action...

Everyone please pay attention, be aware of your surroundings, be safe, try not to kill anyone, and try to not to do anything like this!

and not to kick him while he's down, but was that a "no wake" buoy I saw him cut through?
Old     (wakeslife)      Join Date: Jul 2005       08-31-2007, 12:18 PM Reply
no it was a "caution low bridge ahead" buoy

And does it look like that girl is riding on the sunpad??
Old     (rio_sanger)      Join Date: Apr 2007       08-31-2007, 3:10 PM Reply
So youv'e got the driver towing through a no-wake zone, a girl riding on the sunpad ,and a rider doing flips under a bridge...Hmmmm, a real boatload of brains.

Hope he has a fast recovery, But that was a very poor choice.Bocephus is right, she is riding on the engine cover.
Old     (innov8)      Join Date: May 2005       08-31-2007, 3:39 PM Reply
Like I said, it was not behind my boat nor was I in the boat when this happened nor would I blow through a no wake zone or have a girl on the engine cover, but I can't control what other people do in there boat.
They got very lucky that he is still alive if you ask me, a few more feet up in the air and I dont think he would be with us today or if he was he would be in a wheel chair. I posted this vid so other riders could hopefully learn from there mistakes and not make the same mistakes they did.
Be safe and enjoy your time on the lake.

innov8, that is insane. hope theres a speedy recovery for whoever it is.

I ride that spot pretty frequently, and would never even dream of hitting the railroad bridge. (though Im not incredibly good...).

I'm not a fan of the no-wake bouys up there (pretty much down the middle of the best place on the lake. -short of upriver ofcourse). I guess because of the new boat ramp, but they didnt have any for as long as I've lived here (16 years) until this season and had no trouble or accidents.

Innov8, who is that? Does he post up on DWB.com?
Old     (innov8)      Join Date: May 2005       09-01-2007, 7:29 AM Reply
Ya that new No Wake buoy sucks because of the new launch, it did mess up the best line on the lake we lost a good 1000yards of butter with that buoy, but it is what it is and now its a no wake zone.
Patrick, no he does not post on DWB.

Innov8, I remember when you told me that story and I thought it sounded back then. But when I watched the video it made me want to throw up just imagining how much it had to hurt.

that sucks

btw, whats wrong with riding on the sunpad??? (note i don't own a wakeboard boat)... i've only been on 2 with one, the first my neighbors told us its a good place to relax... so we laid there a bunch (we were 10) and another time i sat on it facing the rider since there about 15 people on the boat, but i just didn't wanna be crampedb but i was holding on to stuff

Being nearer the back of the boat increases ingestion of fumes from the exhaust. Also there's a higher risk of falling out of the boat as it's more 'on top' of the boat as opposed to 'in' the boat. It's law in many states I believe.

As I understand it, riding with any part of your hips above the gunwhales is considered illegal, and likely to result in a large fine. You can't sit on the sides of the boat while in motion, nor on the sundeck (or the tower I'm assuming). I'm not sure how they view standing up in the boat, as your hips are higher than the gunwhales then...but in my boat every butt is on a seat or we don't move.

IMHO riding on the sunpad is another hot debate-able topic. With most of my crew who have been around boats all their lives, have pretty good awareness, respect, generally smart responsible people, etc. it doesnt bother me if they chill back their. I actually looped some extra old rope links around my ski pylon as a place to hang onto when surfing etc. They know how the boat rides, the chances they take, etc. The only time I get sketchy about "sunpad chillin" is if its someone I dont know, or they are pretty new to the sport. I am sure different boat owners view the topic differently depending on personality, history, etc. To each his own.

While the bridge thing is a very poor choice of moves, I hope him the best recovery. I have not met a single person who hasnt gotten amped at showing off for someone. Whether its "kodachrome courage" or "silicon courage", guys make some pretty bad choices. Sadly this guys choice had brutal consequences. I hope him the best; a hard lesson learned.

That is insane! These are the same thoughts I have when I see a video of someone jumping another boat.

Just about every bridge in the delta is like that, in fact when we were out during the super high tides winter before last my Malibu would barely clear under the old River bridge (shown in the BG of the shot below) I've never heard of anyone hitting it although I'm sure people have.
