Has anyone heard or used any of the Boss Audio Amplifiers? How do they compare to say Fosgates, PPI, or Orions? I have a friend that can get these for a VERY good price, and he swears by them, but he may just be partial to them, and I dont want any thing that wont sound good....I will be running a set of B-530s and B-60s onto it....

I've got one in my car, and it has done the job for more than 3 years now. So, my experience has been good. However to compare it to a PPI or Orion is like apples to pears. In clarity and delivering stated specs there's no contest. My local pawn shop carries Boss amps new. That should tell you something.

Boss ='s junk. Those speakers won't see half the power they need. You will not be happy.

You get what you pay for is very true in amps. You will not get a true watt at a reasonable voltage level for less than a $ 1.00. A Boss 600 amp (exmaple) would likely produce a true 250 watts max at the voltage it would see. Some amps are: (1) overrated; and (2) rated at 14.4 which nearly doubdle the power when the amp see 13.5 or so typical of a boat charging system.

If you see a $ 199.00 1000 watt amp, you can pretty much bet that that amp has about 200 true watts when you hook it up to your system.

Power is not everything. Speaker efficiency and clarity can help make a bad amp sound great, but it may cost less to get a better amp and medium priced speakers.
