Looking for input on wiring speakers, video signal and remoter operator for video camera. I stopped by a stereo shop to get a quote on tower speakers and I was also shown a plug used at the pivot point of the tower for disconnection. I see lots of pics with huge speaker wires and looking at the 9 pin plug, the size of the pin seems like it would defeat the purpose of the large wires. Here's a couple of questions; What wire size would you recommend for ~500 watts going to (4) 6x9 speakers? I know I can use small wires for camera signals, so does anyone know of a multiple gage wire mixed in a single insulation bundle? What reasons would you take a tower apart except for damage requiring a plug disconnect at the pivot joint? It would seem better to run a single wire bundle to the termination point.

Thanks for the help and input.

Jim Don't worry about the size of your speaker wires running to your tower. 500 watts is no big deal. When you buy the wire it has a recomendation on how much power you can and should run threw it (check it out) let that answer your question. I take it the 500 watt Amp your talking about is a 4 channel and that case your only talking about 125 watt's per channel if your lucky. Check out my website located on my profile for Idea's in running wires for your tower. Good luck

id say your going to want 14 gauge due to the power and length of the runs, try allied electronics for the plugs , here is just one example and the catalog has many more http://www.alliedelec.com/catalog/pf.asp?FN=315.pdf

the plugs at the bottom would be cool if they were weather resistant: http://www.alliedelec.com/catalog/pf.asp?FN=230.pdf

You might try your local small trailer dealer. The cable used on many boat and small trailers for lights is a 14ga 4 gang cable in weather proof sheath.

heck if you figure in all the parts, lets see:2-wires for anchor light, 2- wires for spot lights, 4- wires for speakers.......6 multigauge bundle plus set of connectors, ....probably over 50 if you buy stuff that will take marine abuse??? I just cant see using 14 gauge wire and 16 gauge size pins??
