I'm making some changes to my boat stereo and I'm going to do the work myself. I have some questions for you experts. You know who you are. First, is there any noticable difference in sound quality or output from a speaker when using different quality rca's and is there a difference in the rca's for sale. Second, any suggestions on where to purchase audio cables...(online, retail store?) Third, I have two optimas and one is at the rear of the boat and the other is at the front. I'm thinking I want to move the front one to the rear in order for it to be closer to the alternator. Is there any benefit to this? Thanks for some help.

yes & no...in a high quality set up, high quality cables make a difference "IMO". this is a hotly debated topic since there is no measurements available xcept the human ear..

a lot will depend on how critical(trained) your ear is.. the biggest consideration is how quiet or resitant to rf hum a cable is in this type of install..

the best cable i have found at reasonable cost is the audio art cable...i have compared these to $800 meter cables in a reference system and have found them to hold their own....(the ic1's are very very good and the ic3 are world class)

here is the website..

Thanks. Any opinions on the battery issue. Assuming that the cables are the proper size, and your amps are at the front of the boat, shouldn't the batteries be closer to the alternator.

I prefer the batteries as close as I can get them to the engine/alternator. I then run my FUSED amp wiring from the batteries to the amps located under the dash.

In an outdoor environment, street wires, AR or monster RCA cabling is sufficient. I keep my rca wiring as short and close to my source as possible. I use 3 foot RCA cables from the eq/line driver and 1 foot from the head unit to the eq/line driver. Use good speaker wire too!!

Here's a link for cables:
