full tune up srark plugs, cap, rotor,wires, check timing, fuel filter. will usually fix it

ever cleaned the spark/flame arrestor?

Maybe its the anti-siphon valve at the fuel tank. Sometimes junk prevents it from opening fully.

Either fuel system or ignition. A friend had an OMC 5.7L, it shot ducks under load (pulling up a rider), but planed off just fine with no rider. Turned out to be ignition (spark plug) wires.

Bad accelerator pump in the carb? That would be the most likely cause. Usually feels like you cut the throttle for a second not opened it.

power valve on the holley been checked?

if you have a hose, fire up the engine at night. this will show any erant sparks. if you have a good ear , you can hear them.

i agree with 88. try a tune up. it's not a toyota.

My nautique did the same thing. It turned out to be the "Fuel Metering Plate" on the Holly carb. Put new one in and as run fine since.

If it hesitates, but slowly winds out to nice rpm and sounds ok, the timing may need to be adjusted.
