I know you have heard progressive edge everywhere you research on how to jump the wake. what that means is when you cut into the wake, start gradually and build up speed as you approach. I know when i first started i would go way out, cut real hard, but i would reach my top speed about half way too the wake and then loose all my tension. Build up speed to the wake, you should be accelerating all the way through, and once you are at the very top, push off the top. Think of that and what dave said, you should be able to get it, just stay in control. And about your fins, it's not that, if you are edging right you don't even need fins to jump. (landings, not as easy.)
