recently bought a new boat - a 2009 Moomba Outback V.

Couple options I included were a wakeplate and the new gravity 3 ballast system.

My question is this...

Why is it that:

when I have just the driver in the boat and someone surfing (9.8 mph, wake plate up), a fantastice wave is produced with just 450 lbs of ballast in the rear corner.

when I have six people in the boat and someone surfing (9.0 mph, wakeplate up), I need 750lbs in the rear corner and also need to fill the front 400 lb sac in order to get a fantastic wave in the rear.

This seems odd to me, like it ought to be the other way around.

This is kinda normal with any boat whether it's surfing or boarding, when your weight changes, the wake changes and you have to adjust your overall set-up i.e. wake plate an speed. As weight is added, typically the plate will need to be dropped down a little. Also try to speed up a little, at 9.0, it seems like the wake will wash out to me.

wake is actually pretty nice at 9.0 mph with the 750's
