skiing with two people. Here in AZ the law requires three people to ski. But I never see any police boats on the lakes...especially in the early AM. How bad (expensive) is the ticket if I got caught skiing with two. I've got a big mirror to keep an eye on skier.

Me and a bud would always go to Pleasant early in the AM and we never had issues. Just keep your eyes open and try to stay away from other boats. Some of those narly fisher dudes may squeal on you. Amount of fine unknown but's more than a tank of gas.

Get a blow-up doll... dress it up like someone hungover (hoodie, sunglasses etc etc) and prop it as an observer.... it has worked for us a few times

best to use something to add weight to the bottom or she'll fly away

In some states you just need a legal mirror if you have two people (rider and boarder).

what happens in the boat, stays in the boat.

actually this will sounds pretty gay, but our blow-up is a guy with a mustache...no "real" parts besides arms, legs and a head though...but from a cop's P.O.V. looks real enough.

In AR as long as you have a mirror you don't need a 3rd

its the same in MN but on some lakes around here there is restiction at some times on certian lakes. Bigger lakes must have 3 people on fri evenings and on weekends. Just be sure that specific lake doesnt have something similar.

Nick,

That's good stuff. I can only imagine the stories that could be had if you got pulled over for something else and had to explain.

Thanks for the replies.
Nick-we thought about the dummy idea too but couldn't imagine how to explain our way out of it if we got busted.
Oh well...I didn't think it would be so hard finding a third!

In Canada it's a criminal offense to not have a capable observer. Much like drunk driving or assault.
Mind you we still see one in the boat many times and very few police. But the consequences of getting caught are serious here.

I got the ticket on Lake Shasta CA about 7 years ago for towing my 7 yr old son on a 9' soft surf board at about 10mph with a seadoo. Cop was an a$$. cost me over $300. I still do it on Lake Mead early when No one is around but never after 10am or so.

We have the approved mirror rule in Alabama. We have ridden with two a few times, but I have also been in a situation or two where there was an injury and I was glad that we had more than two people.

I used to use an old barefoot suit to make my "observer" from. Stuff it with towels and fold one over for the head and use a safari style hat.

A few years ago we were riding with only 2 on a Monday afternoon on the Columbia River here in Washington State. Not another boat was within 2 miles from us. We were stopped and getting ready to switch riders when 2 jet skis came around a corner from a boat launch at full speed twords us. It was two county sheriffs. They said they had been watching us from shore. After doing a full safety check of the boat they issued me an $87 ticket for not having an observer. I think the ticket has gone up to something like $150 since then.
