I am looking to buy a new tow vehicle. Yes I am looking to order a BU and do the audio...but I need a new Truck and thus I thought I would get the ultimate tow vehicle. I am considering a lifted Duramax...what trucks do you guys use and like.

Your name wouldn't happen to be Jeremiah would it?

You should test drive a:
Ford-PSD
Dodge-Cummins
Chevy-Duramax
Find the one you like.
It's your ride so pick something you like not what everyone else says they like.
sorry to be blunt.
I drive a 04 Powerstroke. I like it. Rides nice tons of room(crew cab) 6 people+gear and still TONS of room.

Though i am bias to Dodge, I was at the dealership in Tracy today and saw a loaded new 07 Mega Cab dually 4x4 6.7 Cummins for $50k plus $12000 off MSRP. Hard to beat for $38k. Just my humble opinion. The big 3 all make great trucks. Just go with a diesel and you can't go wrong. Also there are a few other threads on here about the same subject. Good luck and congrats on being able to by a new truck and a new boat

Although I have a new '07.5 Duramax, you can't go wrong with any of the big 3's diesels. They all have tons of power and torque and you will notice it immediately. Just like alex said, test drive all 3 of them and go with the one you like the best because the interiors and rides are different on all 3.

Dodge-great motor,bad trans, crap interior
Ford-hit or miss engine, dated exterior, BIG
Chevy-best ride, new interior is plush, engine/trans combo is hard to beat-more $

I don't have a diesel pretty much because I don't tow anything super heavy...just my Malibu. Not sure if you're set on a diesel or want other opinions, but here goes. I've got a Silverado with an 8.1 and an Allison transmission. It pulls unbelievably and the transmission is a great addition for towing cuz it always seems to be thinking what I'm thinking.

Johnny Spooner huh, sounds like a porn name. I'd be willing to bet this is the same Jeremiah that was over in the girls that ride section offering up tows and didn't even own a boat. Oh and he was an independently wealthy youth pastor.

I share the sentiment of driving all three and seeing what you like. In any case, you will simply love the power and how it tows a wakeboat. Get a crewcab no matter what.

On the "lifted" end of things I offer a word of caution. If you are gonna use this strictly for towing and highway and mild dirt roads, the lift MIGHT sacrifice some of the nice highway characteristics. I stress might because some of the lifts and leveling kits can provide a better than stock ride.

I drive an 06 F250 and love it. Awesome road trip machine and pulls like a beast, completely stock save for some upgraded tires as most stock tires are junky and I take it to the snow. The breeder we got our puppy from had a similar truck with at least a 6" lift, upgraded shocks, and rims with big aggressive meats on them. He told me it drove poorly on certain freeways with expansion joints, the front end would hop around etc. Just an experience I had and wanted to share.

You can always wait on the upgrades such as a lift etc. and just see how the truck rides before making big changes to it's suspension. I know these trucks look bad-azz all lifted etc. But I really like the way mine does on the highway and don't want to sacrifice that one bit just to make it appear to be a better truck.

When you find the one you like, hit up some forums and ask questions about lifts and tires and see what their experiences are. Better to find out what you might be in for before you drop $3k into lifts and tires and shocks.

Good luck and happy oil burning.

Like some of the others have said, any of the big 3 diesels will be awesome. We have an 04 Excursion 4wd with the 6.0 PSD and we love it. My brother has the Megacab Dodge 4wd with the Cummins and that truck is sweet as well, it tows his 37' fifth wheel like nothing. I have a buddy with a Duramax that he drags his toyhauler around with and that is a great truck as well.

Drive them all and see which one you like. I'm biased towards Fords and the Excursion suits us perfect. In fact it is the best vehicle I have ever owned. Diesel, the ride is great, it holds an unbelievable amount of stuff and has a 44 gallon tank. In fact over New Years I loaded the X up with a 45" big screen (standing up), wife, both kids and gear, food and clothes for a week...no problem. Dave's seen how much junk we load into that thing on a regular basis.

Dodge equals bad transmission is a myth that the chevy dealers tell you so that you buy their truck. show me a stat......

I have over 100k on my dodge and it still pulls like the day it was purchased.

I am a Duramax owner, and would not hesistate to buy a Dodge either, great engine, and plenty of friends have had no problem with their tranny's. I just prefered the Chevy

One thing to keep in mind..... All the '07 and newer diesels have to be smogged. Just something to think about if you're the kind of person that wants to tune your diesel.

I've been very happy with my '06 PSD. I bought purely off the deal I was offered at the time and the fact that I thought my truck looked the best stock (chrome package with factory 20" wheels).

I wouldn't be worried about the issues that people bring up. Ford=bad motor, Dodge=bad tranny, etc... They're all good. I haven't had a hiccup out of my motor in 25k. It hasn't even been back to the dealer.

The other thing that drew me to the Ford was the space inside. Not only is the truck wider than the Dodge or Chevy, but the cab is longer, too. I like the space behind the back seat and the comfort with 3 across. The Ford easily accomodates 6 real sized people.

Anyway, just my thoughts.... If this thread is for real!?!
