So I have been looking at new boards and I am concerned that if I spend 500 on a new Ronix Koal it will get beat up in my board racks. How do people store glass surf boards if you don't use your board racks. Or what do you put around the board in the board rack to protect it from damage? Trying to go up with a option that will work as I don't have room to store under anyhing or on the floor. As always thanks.

Wakeboard style racks with bungy style cord are generally to tight and will damage an epoxy/ foam style board when it is exposed to the sun for a period of time, and if Yur board is Cf wrapped it is even worse. Use clamp style racks or over head tower racks

Any recommendations?

I wonder if you could custom build some wide body type fork legs for the normal wakeboard racks?
Have each fork be 3-4" wide and have a longer bungee so it's not as tight?
I bet if you used HDPE or polycarbonate you could have a really trick looking rack and have something that wouldn't marr the boards and not require rubber inserts to.

If you have a Bimini I know that people have had "pockets" sewn into the top to store up to two boards on top. I have a Z5 cargo rack that can store 3 boards, it has bungees and straps.

I will probably do what Justin said about the pockets on Yur bimini top.

my tower has two bars up top. i bought surf board pads like for a car, velcroed them on, got 2 bungees and tired them down. works great. i will try to get a pic of it.

These are the same overhead racks listed in the classified section. I just mounted them below my tower and bimini. This way my custom boards stay out of the sun. They work awesome. Each can hold 2 boards (if you take fins out). Very easy to use and they are rock solid.

You guys have given me some great options. I am going to buy the board and and work on hanging or buying the top rack. I have a spot under my Bimini top that might work? IF not put a sock on the baord and buy the board holder.

I cut the middle fork out of my wakeboard rack and put bmx crossbar pads on the remaining forks, and now have a surf rack. Only holds one board but thats better then not using it at all

just an idea, i would also look at some other board options that the koal. not to say bad things about the board, but there are many better products that are a better construction and also will totally out perform that board. I had a koal when it came out, I have made all the mistakes over the years and really dont want someone else too as well. i recomend staying away from wakeboard co surf boards unless you are buying used and really cheap. hope this helps

Tal, look up Wakemitch. He works at Calmarine sports I think. Knowledgeable guy and great prices on boards. Skip the Koal, had one, sold it.

Keep in mind that all boards made in true Surfboard construction may get damaged if you don't have a proper rack to store it.

Good call on talking to Mitch at Cal Marine. I now have a new board and a 750# fat sack on the way. My goal is to give Sanger Tom lessons by 4th of July at Shaver Lake. I bought a board sock as well so we will see how it fits in my racks and I will post up some pictures.
