Whats that local all about???? Does it pretty much have the mannerisms of a regular board or is it mostly just a jib / rail board???
Old     (jjakober)      Join Date: Apr 2002       05-28-2008, 8:54 AM Reply
Jesse,

The Local rides like a regular wakeboard, just with more flex. It's construction is such that it is stiffer in the center of the board and gets softer towards the tip and tail.

Dang might have to check one out.... I know I have said it before but its shape looks a lot like the obrien demented and as most on here know I am obsessed with that board!!!

Good eye Jesse, the shape of the Local is based on the Demented

The House looks like a great place to get it, they seem to have good prices on all their stuff.

How much flex does the local have in comparison to a slingshot?? I am interested in trying flex and the local seems to be a more reasonable price for something brand new

I'm surprised it is that cheap. I am glad that board companies are looking at alternative materials, flex patterns and shapes these days. These have something other than wood for the core right?

Craig,

Here is a link to a short video I made of me stepping on the Local 138 to show it's flex.

http://good-times.webshots.com/video/3040273900103314895NsPFEc

I weigh about 180 lbs. my son weighs about 70 lbs.

I remember seeing a video of a guy stepping on a Slingshot and it behaved about the same.

Hope this helps.

very interesting.

nice pics and vid

from the looks of things it looks as if the little knick in the tip and tail of the board was made a bit smaller... does it serve any purpose?

Jeremy,

Other then to add a little something to the tip/tail of the board, I don't believe it serves a purpose.

Is the Local just a flexboard similar to all the others like the R5 and Roam or is it meant to be ridden off the wake as well? Both of them look really good though

Here's a few Horrible Shots of me riding the R5 as a wake board. It pops really nice, a little hard to get it to edge but really fun to ride. I will post some jibbing pics as soon as I get.

Josh,

The Local is a Flex wakeboard. The added flex gives the board different riding characteristics then a traditional wakeboard that some riders really like.

Here is a shot going w2w:

jakober,

so does it ride similar to a normal wakeboard or is it more comparable to putting fins on the R5

Josh,

It rides like a normal wakeboard.

How slippery is the Local? Doesn't look like much is going on on the bottom of the board as far as channels. It looks really thin. The Roam got snapped I think I might want to pick up a Local to replace it.
Old     (jjakober)      Join Date: Apr 2002       05-30-2008, 8:53 AM Reply
Stephen,
The Local is flat on the bottom. It has removable fins so it can be made as loose(smaller fins/no fins) or as tight(larger fins) as you want it to be. The edge of the board is completely rounded, so you will be relying on the fins and good edging technique to generate line tension.

Jesse,

What size Demented do you currently ride? I was curious because I see you ordered the Local 144 and that’s a pretty big board. I think the Local 138 might be a better fit for you. Are you a big dude?

I rock the 144 and I am big dude, but I must say the 144 feel bigger to me than my 144 natty does.
Old     (j_money)      Join Date: May 2006       05-30-2008, 9:47 AM Reply
Im 6'2 200 and my demented is a 141. Anything smaller than 139 or so feels squirrely to me. I like the bigger decks so I think it will work out fine. But thanks for the concern!

Yes you qualify as a Big Dude!!

Sounds like the 144 should be perfect.

Prior to taking the Local for a spin, I had been given the Slingshot a try and having a tough time adjusting to it. Once I made a few jumps on the Local I felt like I was wakeboarding again. The flex was moderate, but really fun. It is a unique ride for sure. I can't wait to give it another go.

Yeh the '07 210 wake is pretty sweet!

Itch,
The grey is coming on strong, but I would rather be grey then follicly challenged!

Rick,
My previous statement was not meant to be a dig on you!!

Great wrap on the boat. I saw that on the wakeboardreport.com and I liked the theme and thought the execution was great. The Local is looking better and better to me.

It may be a dumb question but what are the notches taken out of the tip and tail for?

Hey J:
Gray hair is a sign of wisdom. You should be proud!!!

Matt: It looks sweeter with the notches out!
