I currently pull the SANTE with a Lexus LX 470. I am looking to change suv's and I am currently looking at a 04 GMC DENALI. Has anyone towed a wakeboard boat with this vechicle. It is rated for 8000 lbs so it shouldn't be a problem. Need to stay with a SUV that can haul the kids and boards and all that stuff... How about a HUMMER? I am told the longer wheel base in the DENALI and all wheel drive is the way to go. Any suggestions?

Mike,
I currently pull my Calabria Pro V (3500#) with a Yukon XL with the 5.3L. No problems. I believe the Denali has the 6.0L. Just put some 22" wheels and your all set. And Hummers are played out.

I pulled a Pro-V all summer long with a Escalade 22" 6.0L all wheel drive for promo reasons at Wet Wednesdays. Never had a problem with power, it not a power stroke. It didn't come close to my truck, but if was fun driving a free truck around.

And Hummers are for people who can't get a hummer from someone IMO.

If by Hummer you mean a real H1 then that would be cool. The H2 is less of a truck than the Denali. I have a K2500 Suburban with a 496 that does just fine towing a Super Air.

I pull my '03 SANTE with a Tahoe and have no problems. I'm sure the Denali won't let you down.

I tow with a F350 crew cab diesel. Don't even know the boat is behind me! You might want to consider the diesel excursions.

04 Suburban Z71, has the 5.3 in it and no problem towing a Tige' 22I, which I bet is 500 to 1000# heavier than the SANTE.

IMO, The H2 lost there clout with me when they made it able for everyone to buy. They need to keep the price close to the H1. Than you would not see so many of them on the road. And then it would have more clout. Just like the SAN and the X-Star you just don't see a lot of them. IMO.

The new denalis are cool. I am thinking about getting one myself as soon as i can sell my dually. A good friend has one and we have taken it to florida a couple of times and the ride is great.

Thanks everyone... If you put 22" on the DENALI do you have to raise it abit and do you think you really need to do that? They come with 17 inch tires and pretty nice rims? Naturally the kids want the dvd screen and captain chairs in the second row. The suv is pretty much loaded and not as much as the lexus 470 as far as price and it has more room and can tow more. Any other suggestions....

Mike IMO with 22's you will want to lower it 2" front and I went 4" in the rear to make it sit right.

Mike,
Wheels 22" for shizzle bro. Lower it as Phaeton suggests. Video system a must. I would highly recommendm it. Keeps kids from fighting. Tint the front two windows. De-badge the entire rig. Maybe some different tail lights. Oh, and of course a bumpin' system. Did I leave something out? Supercharge the engine. Whipple supercharger.(still on my dream list.)

For sure go with the Whipple, But if you can't aford it at least do a chip it under 500. And ya go with dvd like sydwayz says he know all about keeping his what 7 or 8 kids happy.

I'm still waiting for the 35" bfg's all terrain to make 22" so I can put spinners on my truck. I don't want to pay 4k per tire to get them made, so I will just wait.

I been Pullin the Enzo with an 03' tahoe Z-71 no squat due to the auto shocks and had no problems over the mountains and whatnot, it pulls that boat very compfortably and has no trouble stopping especially with my 4 wheel trailor brakes, and it never has trouble getting goin, its no 79' ford E-250 trailer special with a built 460 and B&M C-6, but it works pretty darn good.

Maverick, How do you like your Enzo? Saw one at a local dealership here. Looks Sweet!! What is the wake like?

That 650 is bigger than my house seriously who needs one of them? Are you towing a fleet of boats? You would prob fit a boat in the back seat. However might i recommend the latest John Deere. It will tow anything, never get stuck or break down and prob has better mpg than that lump of a truck!
Old     (switch)      Join Date: Oct 2003       01-05-2004, 11:42 AM Reply
I love the 650 and 750 I thought about doing the same thing, but it would be hard to park and bad fuel econ.
Old     (kenv)      Join Date: May 2002       01-06-2004, 2:28 PM Reply
Oh come on guys, I didn't mean it as a serious tow truck, but I'm sure someone will use one to tow a wakeboard boat. As far as price, fuel ecomony and parking -- get real. If you "Have the bling to roll that thing" - who cares about 11 mpg!!! You might be suprised to see it do better that 11-12 mpg. Most people that have 350 Crew's park at the end of the row anyway. Go to an Academy or Wal-Mart and see where the pickups park.

I have a F350 crew and I get 22mpg. It's hard to pass that up to go with 11mpg. I would still like to have one thou.

The Denali is the correct answer....

Thanks everyone...Were going with the Denali with sunroof, captain chairs and dvd player to keep my daughters quiet. It can pull 8000 lbs and color is going to be summit white. I believe for our needs the Denali is the way to go for room than the Hummer H2.
