For those of you that have an Iphone. If you had to replace your current phone and could wait until a newer Iphone comes out. Is it worth spending the extra for the 3GS or is the 3G good enough.

Considering that the new iPhone should likely be out in less than a year, I'd say wait for that. I've got the 3G, my roommates have the 3GS and they are very similar. Basically you get the ability to do video, turn by turn GPS and a few other things. Oen thing that will change when the new OS comes out is the ability to multi-task, the 3G will allow you to do that. But if you are planning to get the new one, it would be a short period of having to deal with it.

I just got a 3GS. Amazing piece of technology. I'm never bored. I can multi task, except for Pandora. If you nav from Pandora, it shuts off.

The 4th gen phone will be released June 7-11, so I would wait if I were you.

I would wait for the 4th gen coming out in June, but I'm thinking the 3GS will be really cheap after the launch of the new iphone, and it is compatible with OS 4.0. Thats what happened to the 3g when the 3gs came out, it went down to $99.

J-rod a jailbroken iphone can multitask with no problem. I've been doing it for a while now. The new OS4.0 will have multitasking and a whole bunch of other cool stuff. I hope apple doesn't charge 3GS owners for the upgrade.

The 3G non jail broken will not do multitasking with version 4 software. I was looking to upgrade, so I'll be getting the 4 when it comes out. I would highly doubt there is a charge for the OS4.

Shawn your right not on non jailbroken 3g, but jailbroken yes.

Apple in the past has charged ipod touch user to upgrade to 3.0 software, and there has already been an article about ipads not getting free updates after their upgrade to 4.0. Probably cause they couldn't get 4.0 done in time so they will give those users 1 free upgrade to 4.0.

iphones get free upgrades because apple makes continuous money on them via data contracts. ipods and ipads have no contracts so no free upgrades... but yes 4.0 might be an exception for the ipad since they rushed the hardware out the door without the software being ready.

I'm hoping for a free upgrade, but I'll probably buy the new phone anyway.

The 3gs is definitely faster than the 3g if those are your 2 options.

I "inherited" my son's 3G phone when he got a 3GS. Man, I wish the 3G would zoom on all screens like the 3GS does!

FYI- the 4.0 update will be for the 3gs ONLY. iPhone 3g won't be getting the upgrade.

I would wait on buying a new phone if you can. That way you can see if the new iPhone will be going to Verizon, or if you are just more interested in the HTC Incredible, or whatever.

Bzzzt... the 3g will get 4.0

Trust me I've already loaded it on a couple of 3g phones ;-)

The 3g will not support multitasking - but it gets all the other functionality of os4.

Wes , if you jailbreak that 4.0 installation on the 3g you can have multitasking, it's been done already. Not a new program, but apples actual multitasking program.
Once 4.0 comes out I don't think I will jailbreak my phone again. Apple has done a good job at giving people the ability to do many things they wanted and have done with a jailbroken phone.

You have to be a developer to get 4.0 on your phone and is has to be authorized through apple. I believe each developer get 5 phones to put it on.

Well, I did a search and found that it should be released this summer, but the beta is available to developers now. Thanks again for the info.

Trust me you aren't missing much yet. Beta 2 is still fairly buggy.
