Anyone out there have any comments on the Centurion Hurricane V-drive (Elite V-Drive) as an all around family ski and wakeboard boat? I saw it at this weekends Calgary boat show and it appears to be a good allaround boat for the money. Three feet of ice on all the lakes makes it difficult to test drive at this time of year!}

Tom, the reviews on here havn't been the best. You might want to do a search in the archives to check out old posts on the boat.

Tom, Sorry, it's just any time anyone shows support for Centurion on here, someone has to bring back all the problems they have had. We're on our second Centurion. The boats are built to a high standard. We had some issues with the engine in our '02, but so far the '03 has been perfect. The build quality is very high. I have no personal experience with the Hurricane. I'd suggest demoing the boat and if you are happy with it, that's all that matter. What percentage do you ski/wakeboard? If you ski 50%+, I would go more toward the Cyclone (Eclipse V) or the Tornado (Elite D-Drive). The Elite D I have heard has a good slalom wake. Our Eclipse D Drive has a good wake for boarding and I can only imagine that the V-Drive is better. If you are doing 70+ wakeboarding, I would look into the Avalanche. Brad, did you get Pro v6.4? I still haven't put all the baselines in our '03, I only have 34 and 36 in from last fall. It's the first option anyone should get. Can't even remember how to throttle manually anymore (Message edited by kstateskier on February 18, 2003)

Nick: Yep I ordered the Pro V6.4! I'm super excited about it! Now I won't have to bit*& at my friends who don't know how to drive the course, plus hopefully it will make me better because I'll get the same speeds each time! I can't wait... Today I started my 50 day countdown to flip flops, and at the end of the 50 days I will be switching to flip flops for the summer and also getting back on the water (Hopefully a lot!) That reminds me, Nick are you getting a job in KC? That would be great, because then we could get on the water a lot after work. I've got a great spot during the week, no body is ever there after work!

I'm down to KC, Vail, and Denver right now. Looking at jobs with Marriott, Vail Resorts, and Hyatt. Sounds like a good plan, I want to switch to flip flops now. I'm ready to get on the lake now. These 50 degree days are a teaser. If I had the boat at the house here I would have probably gone out the last couple of days. Tuttle is really low right now though. Back to the topic, Centurion good, Bayliner bad.

Nick, I'm curious what you think about the vynal in the Centurion. i was looking at the Avalanch at the boat show, but the back lid had been cut by a lady's show. How well does it hold up to board and ski fins? The boat had great storage and looked great, the vynal seems to be the biggest concern with me. Any feedback would be great.

These days are a tease... Well Denver and Vail would be hard to pass up, but damn the water is sure cold up there! We'd definately get more water time if you were in KC. I think I'm going to bring my boat up from Table Rock in March or April and get the PP installed and then I'll have it here so I can ski after work during the week!

David, The vinyl in our boats have seemed to be very high quality. On the '02 we logged about 150 hours and 11 tournaments and didn't even have a nic. The carpet was a little lower quality last year, but they have put in a lot nicer carpet for '03. The snap out is the only way to go. Brad, we'll definately have to hook up at Table Rock no matter where I'm at.

You can bet on that Nick... I'm throwing a fourth of July party at the house! We are getting a keg and having a bonfire on the shore behind the house! It should be pretty good! Bring your sleeping bag and there will be room on the floor, everybody is invited! I'll be down there that whole week before the 4th, come down anytime if you aren't working!

Tom, I have a '99 Elite-V that I purchased new. The only problem I have had with it was the temp gauge. It was not functioning properly from the factory, but the dealer immediately replaced it and no problems since. It has been a great boat and after 4 years with young kids there are still no tears in the vinyl. I ski and wake board about 50-50. The slalom wakes are not too bad above 32mph (they are about the same or a little better than the ’86 Nautique 2001 that I had prior to this boat). The wake board wake is better with about four adults in the back seat. The only thing I would change on my boat is the one-piece hatch, which they changed a couple years ago. Almost forgot, I also went to an Ambush 4 prop. The original 3 blade CVP stainless was horrible! The vibration on that blade was awful. The Ambush increased the hole shot had little effect on the top end and is soo smooth. By the way, I had many more serious problems with my Nautique than the Centurion. I do believe the problems I had were not all that common and that Nautique makes a great boat, you just never know. You just have to realize that with any boat you might have problems and hopefully you will have a good dealer if anything goes wrong. I would suggest that you find a boat you like, one that fits your budget, make sure you use it a lot and don’t be overly paranoid about getting a lemon. Kris

I just purchased a new 03 hurricane. I rode behind one last year and was very happy. I thought it was very well made. Has nice high gunwale and the reviews of the rough water capabilities were right on. I'm very happy and the few people that I know that own centurions are very happy with theirs as well. I know people who have bought nauty's and bu's and have had problems with their boats trust me the big three have problems too don't let anyone fool you). I think your dealer is more important than the manufacturer to a degree. They are the one's that get your problems solved. For me the quality is there in Centurion. Wouldn't have bought one otherwise Kris

Tom, I have a 1999 Elite-V Air Warrior. I have never had a problem with it. I have 4 young kids and we love the space inside. We wakeboard and the wake is great for a family. After looking closely at every boat at the recent boat show I think if I had a choice I would go with the Malibu Wakesetter LSV.

You should also look at the Supreme. Wayne Bruce at Airdrie RV had some very nice models at the Boat show held in the Calgary convention center on Jan 31 to Feb 1. I did the comparison last summer and went with the Supreme for several reasons.
