2nd day of boat of having my Malibu I bent the prop. Is this something you have to have replaced at the dealership or can I do it myself? Any ideas on where to find a reconditioned prop for a Malibu?

Just take it either back to your dealer or any boat shop and they will send it out to have it re-surfaced. It costs anywhere from 110$-150$ depending on how bad it is. If I drop mine off at the dealer on a Tuesday it's back by Friday morning. trust me I know I have went through 3 already this year because of the lack of rain here in Florida.

You can do it, you need a pair of pliers, a 1&1/8 socket and ratchet, a prop puller, and a block of wood. Remove the cotter key from the drive shaft. Using the block of wood between the prop blade and boat hull to keep the prop from spinning loosen the nut with the socket and ratchet. Don't remove all the way, just several turns, use the prop puller to remove the prop from the tapered shaft, after it is loose finish removing the nut. Find a prop repair shop to do the work. Try to avoid the dealer marking up the repair. I pay $100 in Tennessee, price varies some by region and amount of damage.

depending on how bad the damage to the prop is it may never be the same... get it resurfaced and buy a new one... we did the same thing we now use the old prop when we take our boat to and from the launch (1 time a year each way), as its almost a guarntee to pooch a prop at the launch on our lake

When I bent mine last year, I took it to the dealer and they sent it to:

North American Propeller
P.0. Box 13
Schofield, WI 54476
715-359-5204

Next time, I'll just send it to them directly to cut out the dealer mark up, as George mentioned.
