Cracked Muffler...Options??

Hey guys,
I have a 92' Supra Sunsport with the 351 PCM. On my last outting I noticed water dripping from the spots where the exhaust manifold risers attach (with rubber boot) to the inlets on the muffler. I think the engine overheated after we managed to install the impeller incorrectly at the beginning of the season and didn't realize it right away. Anybody have any experience with this and/or suggestions. Can this be replaced yourself?? I loosened all the hose clamps on the inlets and outlets and it still won't budge. I looked online to see if I could find a replacement muffler but did not see any that resembled the existing muffler. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I your muffler fiber glass? You can go to a nearby hardware store and get a fiber glass repair kit. Pretty easy to fix, just lay the fiber glass over the area that has the damage. To get the riser off the muffler, take a flat head screwdriver and wedge it in there and spray wd40 inside there and pry apart, takes a little while. Good luck

If so, the muffler isnt made any more The muffler is probably OK though, you probably just melted the exhaust hose. The hose can be a pain to get off, the heat causes it to bond to the risers and mufflers. The best way to break it loose is get a get a big damn pair of slip-joint pliers and try and twist the hose on the fittings to break it loose. Be careful not to squeeze to hard and crack the muffler though.

is that single muffler system better than just attaching a muffler to each exhaust?

Just take the muffler out and strait hose it. Many boats of that era had straight exhaust. Sounds killer(if your a motor head). Should be fine. Just check w/ a speed shop to be sure you don't have any back pressure requirements.

It all depends on the back pressure requirements. Some motors run better w/ less restriction on them while others run better w/ factory specs.

Get some JB weld 2 part epoxy from any home store and you can fix any muffler crack. My old MC prostar had a crack at a joint on the muffler and I fixed it that way. I also fixed my transmission cooler the exact same way. It belongs to a friend now and both fixes have held up for 5+ years.

You could install one of these on each side. http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=NFM289-300 and then use the flex hose to make the difference.

Thanks for all the responses guys, I think we're going to try the repair route and see how that goes. I thought about straight piping it but I was worried about back-pressure issues as well as sound (I enjoy being able to hear the radio!!)
