I was reading the Wake World news earlier and saw in the Expo article that Andrew Adkison broke his back?!?!?! When and how did this happen? Is he OK? This greatly worries me because he seems like such a nice guy and he's wicked wakeboarder.

he rode at INT nationals liek nothing had ever happened to him. It was only his 5th time to ride since his surgery is what he told us.

I don't know if he's back riding yet cuz he said he still has another six weeks before he could even think about it, and that was four weeks ago. However, he's a stud, so who knows. He broke three vertebrate in his back and, as he describes it, they were the little bumps of bone off to the side of the vertebrate. I guess it's the "best" kind of back break you can have.

He wrote an article for us on it, so we'll get that up next week.

Andrew did 2 demo rides in Bakersfield last week at INT US Championships. I had a chance to talk to him just before he got in the water, and he was a little nervous (understandably)

*Sigh of relief* I glad he's Ok, he's like one of my favorite riders. I was freakin' out there for a minute. Hey know Even, I don't "love" him. A friend of mine broke his back last year, and it was really serious, so I was worried for Andrew.

Steve,
I'm glad you liked the board. You got to ride it before I did. I didn't ride the finished product until today actually. The doctor cleared me and
I'm back on the water. Hope your still rippin this time of year as well.

Andrew did not require surgery. He was cleared to ride about 10 days ago. He did do exibitions each day in Bakersfield at INT Championships. Andrew rode in Outlaw in INT Championships 4 years ago and placed 3rd. He loves the INT and promotes it.

He was at the INT Championships because he could not ride at Nationals and therefore did not quailify for Worlds in Oz.

Go ahead Evan, think whatever you want too.

I'm glad he's ok and that he's back to riding. What happened to Dallas??

RUSH CONTRIBUTOR: DALLAS FRIDAY

Back injury may be serious
Dallas Friday
RUSH CONTRIBUTOR

October 21, 2005

My two-week trip to Australia did not go at all as I planned. At the Gravity Games in Perth, I got the bronze. That ended my perfect wakeboard season so far this year. I was really disappointed in myself.

I then went to worlds in Queensland. During the semifinal heat, I fell on my first trick, first pass called an OHH. I hurt my back but didn't want to disappoint the fans, so I finished my run and made it through to finals for Sunday. But after my run in semis, I came back to the dock and lay down, because my back was hurting and I began to shake uncontrollably. They called an ambulance, and I was taken to the hospital where various tests were done.

They think I may have broken my back and wanted me to see a back specialist when I got back to the states. I was rolled around in a wheelchair at airports on all my connections home because I can hardly walk. I am in pain, but am hoping that if I just don't wakeboard for a couple of months, my back will heal but also the torn ligaments in my ankle will heal.
