Just read the Vandall interview (very cool BTW), and I had to do a double take when I read this. I knew he rode fast and way out there, but dang!!! I'm assuming that he must be one of the only riders like that. Anyone know of anyone else close?

Yeah thats why seeing him ride in person is so nuts, its like nothing else you will ever see. I dont think anyone else goes witht hat long a rope or that fast but most pros ride faster and longer ropes than average people.

I thought most pros were around 80-85' and 24-26 mph.

I would love to see it in person.

Keith Lyman also rides 90 feet and fast.

I would ride at that, but wake jumps would be the only thing out of me... and fall at that speed has to hurt sooooooooo bad

Yeah Nick but they would be big wake jumps with lots of hang time, how much longer are you in Orlando?

5/6 days... if the weather is good in wisco.. the first 2 days of nice weather (for travel) after the 26th we'll leave... sucks.

I'll be back in August at the latest to get settled in for school and whatnot.

I haven't left yet and I can't wait to come back.

is Alex still in town?...the boat is still on the water if he wants
my number is 715-213-4240... we'll prob be out a lot these last few days

Just for kicks, I'm going to try that the next time I go out. If I can jump the wake, I'll be a happy man. I guess I should weight up my VLX with the same 4,000 pounds as well!!

Yeah Nick but he only gets 1 day off a week and I think he sleeps in and just chills. He is getting lots of riding in and working on some cool new stuff. See you at Nationals I would guess. You going to ride Men's 1?
Old     (richd)      Join Date: Oct 2003       03-21-2008, 7:16 PM Reply
Most of the local guys I've pulled who ride at 85 end up wanting 26-27 mph so at 92 28mph probably feels about right.

Dave if you didn't add that much weight, the wake at that length would almost be suitable for slalom! I don't even ride 85 unless the SAN is fully loaded. 83' is a good happy medium.

If I don't work (unlikely) I will be down there, but most likely won't ride... I enjoy watching but riding is always just isn't that fun for me.

depending how long your stay is in Wisco if you want to ride before/after the tourny I'm 2 hrs away and we have room at my house... can keep that in mind if you've got extra time around here and want to do some stuff.

*sorry for hijack*

I can only imagine how annoying that power wedge alarm is at that speed. I know he was looking for a way to disable it.

ya joel d from the dirty d rides 93 ft at 28mph. He goes huge with tons of style. He does it like its nothin! We had so much weight in my sanger it took half a mile to get on plane.

i ride at about 83ish feet, would be 85 but there are knots from wakesurfing and other things, so i am going to estimate 83, and at 24-25 mph with about 3200 lbs in the 210...anything slower feels SLOW. 92 at 28 seems correct

I rode 90' behind a Bu on the trinity once. A w2w was like hitting a d-up every jump ,the hang time was gnar in a jar
Old     (brhanley)      Join Date: Jun 2001       03-21-2008, 9:08 PM Reply
The times I have bumped up to 90' the biggest thing I have noticed is I get tired in half the time...it's hard damn work cutting in and jumping at 90' regardless of the speed.
Old     (blazer)      Join Date: Feb 2002       03-21-2008, 9:14 PM Reply
Obviously it is correct, but to do what he does with that set up...crazy.

I'm with Dave; if I cleared the wake and stuck the landing I'd be pretty stoked. You'd have to be sooooo clean and precise or you'd be in for a mean landing (crash).

Check out Randall in Transgression. He clears the wakes of two side by side boats and still goes into the flats. Now that is going BIG !

i may be wrong, but doesn't aaron aubrey ride about that same speed and length? i think i remember an old alliance interview stating that.

FYI, at 28mph the wake is smaller(relatively speaking to 25-26).....so at 90 ft its perfect for the Gods(Vandall, Ricky, Shane, etc) with the 'stock 4k lbs'. An avg mortal like me wud take two cuts and the legs wud crumble. MUCH RESPECT. may we all be blessed to seen ANY Pro rip behind our boat and hear 'the wake was nice, thanks for the set'.

what up Nick!! Your wake was slappin that day! I feel more comfortable going 28- 29 mphs. The wake is harder and ridin at 90- 95 feet you need that extra speed. Plus you get a ton of hangtime.
Old     (deltaridah)      Join Date: Aug 2007       03-22-2008, 9:47 AM Reply
right on Joel.Whats crackin, is the boat back yet?

back to topic.....
i have a question. does randall ride like this in the competitions or does he shorten up his rope length to better suit the competitions format.

i have never been to a pro event, but if he rides at that same length and speed at the pro stops, i'll bet that really is a sight to see.
Old     (wakeriderixi)      Join Date: Jan 2004       03-22-2008, 9:50 PM Reply
Some venues (OWC) won't allow for that rope length. All venues won't allow for that speed and length of cut to get enough 'hits' in to compete. It would make for an interesting comp. in the Aussi format though!
