We're about to give you a preview of Parks' new Ronix pro model board and binding. However, before we put it together, we want to hear what you want to know about the 2008 Ibex wakeboard and Relik binding. We'll take the best questions and put them to Paul O'Brien at Ronix and get you all the juicy details. Post your questions here...

Parks and the O'Briens have put out board designs together for several years now. Would they have built this same '07 board no matter what the brand name?

After leaving Hyperlite and not having a pro model right away, did he ride a different board in the meantime, and did that influence his new design in anyway? Similar to riding various Hyperlite boards before getting his own pro model.

Why the hell is it called the Ibex? I mean I like huge racked deer as much as the next guy but c'mon, the Ibex? Might I suggest the pad footed marmot for his next shape name.

Because of the many problems with Parks knee's how much attention was given to a board that lands softly?

Do the bindings stiffness (or lack of)/design take into account his knee issues (eg because my knees are shot would this be a good combo for me)

Has Ronix fixed the (supposed) broken board problems for 08? I know I may get bashed for saying this, but I thought it would be a good question. BTW, does anybody know what percentage of ronix boards broke compared to LF, Hyperlite, and CWB?

To follow on Trapper, will the binding have a lot of side to side flex like his previous bindings? I've been waiting specifically for another one of his like that. How has the freedom Ronix has given (assumption) influenced the shape and allowed him to try new ideas. (assumption) Will it make you land a 1080? (cause it's got stiff competition

Randy, I believe in one of the last Alliances they had an interview with the shaper of Ronix. He was the guy that had shaped with Hype before, don't recall his name at the moment.

Is the rocker along the same agressive lines as past boards? I owned the '05 and i still dont think i've ever ridden a board that bucked like that.

myke... im pretty sure ronix willl go with they 4 hole pattern.. they were originally going to do it last year.. but figured it was too risky for the first year on the market, if you look at a pair of ronix boots, you'll see the chasie of the boot is already designed to work with a four hole. also, as far as the board shape goes i heard its best described as a hybrid between a ronix one and the hyperlite parks board. pretty sick.

James I figured they would. I took apart this years and noticed the 4 hole setup so I figured that's where it was headed.

yeah, its a pretty sick idea. basically what they are going to do is pack every boot with two bottom plates... the traditional one they used this years, and the new one made for a four hole, if i understand corectly, it will be similar to the old snowboard snap in boots, but instead of clipping in, it will go ontop of a disk, twist, and then you lock it in place with a lever, which you can see a cut-out for on the inner heel of the ronix boots, ive also heard rumor of hyp doing the same thing..

So they are ripping off Slingshots design? Cuz thats exactly what they have. Thats cool though, more options on a flex board will help the industry as a whole.

big heavy its funny that you would say it like that.. when actually, if you saw any of the original sketches or pictures of the ronix prototypes back in 2006, you would know that this was their origional plan for a boot system, and thats why all the 2007 boots are ready for this system.. so i wouldnt say at all "ripping them off"

if not ripping, they are none the less following in their wake, riding on the path that slingshot has broke... ive done this with a jet ski up the main channel in Powell. I would have been beat to crap if it were not for the boat in front. ... in this metaphor, id have to say that ronix would have taken less a beating if it plowed the way due to its history in wakeboarding. I just hope slingshot doesnt get run over later... like waketech

haha wow.. what in any way is this following. they new they were going to do it from when they started designing there boards.. they just new if the released the idea last year they would not have built the solid name they did this year. but they planned to do it all along and coincidentally slingshot has the same idea... mind you, the ronix mechanism will be nothing like the slingshot. on a sling shot boot, you screw through the bottom of the boot, on the ronix system you will mount a plate to the board that the binding will clip onto.

Why would you want to have your boots release from the board? This is not snowboarding where you have to walk in the snow to your board.

If the bindings release from the board on a hard fall, that might help with the broken board/broken binding plate issues. Might also help reduce injuries as the closed toe bindings don't like to release in bad falls. Just a theory, no idea if it that's how they will work.

If the bindings release from the board with out the plate attached you can wear them like shoes. In the other thread there are pics and it looks to me like it has normal inserts.
