Hi every one we have a 14 foot aluminum boat with a 2 stroke 9.9 mercury that I like to go wave jumping in and tool around on. Last year it was great but not I’m a little bigger and it’s too damn slow/heavy and new out boards are too expensive so I found this 8ft flat bottom jon boat on cl for $175.Do you think the 9.9 would be to big? I weight about 180 pounds.

To pull you out of the water?? Or just to push the boat??

Chances are that 8 foot johnboat will be rated for less than a 6 hp. Putting the 9.9 on it gives you a great chance of swamping it and getting hurt. Its not some hydro designed for racing, its a flat bottom johnboat. Plus if you get checked its going to be a healthy fine. If you want to go fast build a little wooden hydro for that 9.9. You can build one for less than $400. They will safely handle the horsepower. Check out Glen-L for plans.
