I have been looking at a consignment X2 for a few weeks. Here is the original window sticker for it and I know it sold for less than this, but the owner is asking 60k, I feel that is pretty high, similarly equiped boats are listed for 52-55k. What do people think this boat should sell for? It has ~60 hours

Also I have heard the LY6 is heads and shoulders better than the MCX and that there isn't much difference. Anybody with experiance with both?

There have been 07's ( low hours) sold on here in the low 40's.

I would say that for that boat you should expect to pay $55-58(k) I bet that with an asking price of $60 you could get it to like $56 which would be fair. The 07's didn't have VDIG, but other than that are the same. If they really are selling for the low $40's like Sam said that is an amazing deal, I have never seen that before.

what is VDIG?

I wish I had seen one for low 40's.

bought my 07 X2 for 44K, 42 hours, but it was a Repo. Not a scratch on it....I got lucky.

It's like the Malivue, but MC's version it stands for Video Digital Gauge. Pretty cool, the screen will be bigger in 2010. but it controls everything from ballast, to Perfect pass, depth screen, or a main screen you can set your custom setting and have 4 things displayed. I was pretty nervious when I got it on my 08 thinking it was just another thing to break but so far a full year into it no problems.

^^^^^^^. Mine did and my buddy who has a 08 just told me his crapped out this weekend. Not a problem though. They just replace it under warranty. Btw greg, pretty boat :-).

I have experience with both the MCX and the LY6 both in fully loaded x-star. MCX is great LY6 is a monster compared to the MCX and I hear the big block is even better. In an X-2 the LY6 is not needed but it is a huge upgrade in my eyes.

07 x-stars had v-dig so I would think the x-2 would have it too.

That price is about right. The only people that post on price are those that got a steal. Half of the time I wonder if the story is embellished, retold, or the same boat from various story tellers.

The MCX and the RPT-1 have the same torque curve at low rpms. You will not notice a difference below 3,000 rpms.

Thanks for the engine input Mark, anyone else with experiance with the two engines?
Looks like I may have to look for an X2 with no options and the LY6...might me impossible

you'll be hard pressed to find an X-2 with an LY6.

Why would you want the LY6? I would understand if your sacking out a Xstar.... and you have plenty of money to burn in gas....

the MCX does just fine even when it's been sacked out in the X-2.

I meant to put the RPT-1 on the above post instead of MCX

i have a sacked out 09 x-star with the LY6 it does real well still wished i had the big block thats just me. if you can swing a deal for around 56 - 58 i`d roll with it.

With the right prop, the RPT-1 does great in the X-2 with full factory ballast and 1,500 additional pounds. We even barefoot with it.

Jason-

Don't shy away from an x-2 with the mcx. This is still more than enough for the x-2. I was just comparing motors not saying that the mcx isn't a great choice. If it was me I would get the best deal on an x-2 I could find with the mcx. If there happens to be a good deal on one with the ly6 then even better but not needed.
Old     (skibum69)      Join Date: Aug 2004       09-25-2009, 11:07 AM Reply
I have only been in the newer style X-2 with the MCX while it was sacked out and I was not impressed with it. My 205 with the TBI with the same amout of weight gets out of the hole alot better, which is why I am thinking about going with the LY6.

Karl, what type of prop are you running?
I am assuming my friend with the X2 is using the stock prop and maybe that's been the problem. The Twin Cities dealer is more than happy to let me test and X2 so maybe I should test one with a different prop.
Old     (h2oproaccessories)      Join Date: Sep 2007       09-25-2009, 11:27 AM Reply
testing is a GOOD idea before you drop 5K in an LY6
Old     (polarbill)      Join Date: Jun 2003       09-25-2009, 11:36 AM Reply
That boat in no way shape or form needs an LY6. If you are buying used and it has one than it doesn't matter but I wouldn't pay one more dollar for the extra motor unless you drive your boat at 10k feet. The 310 rtp is fine, the mcx is perfect if you are adding ballast and the LY6 is just craziness. If your 205 was a direct drive than no matter what engine you put in an X2 it is going to feel slower out of the hole.

I was just about to say that the LY6 is still going to disappoint you if you're coming from a 205. Definitely test drive this boat before you drop a bunch of cash into it.

I've got an MCX in my 205V and with a waterski prop it gets us out of the hole with 2.5k plus like it's nothing.
Old     (hawaiianstiln)      Join Date: Oct 2004       09-25-2009, 12:28 PM Reply
the X2 with the MCX is more than enough. I sac it down and have gear and people and it still jumps out of the water like it laughs at the extra weight. Not sure why anyone would need an LY6 in an X2
Old     (skibum69)      Join Date: Aug 2004       09-25-2009, 12:36 PM Reply
My dealer said the LY6 would only be a $2300 upgrade, over the mcx, which is why I was thinking about it. The RTP has 360ft-lbs of torque and the MCX has 380ft-lb of torque(diff. of 20), which is why I don't think there is much difference in the two. The LY6, however, has 425 ft-lb of torque, which is 65 more than the RTP, which is why I was thinking it might be worth it, but wanted to hear what other people had to say.
I was planning on demoing an LY6, but thats were I was thinking maybe the dealer would be willing to demo an MCX or RTP with a different prop, I know I am not happy with the stock.
Old     (polarbill)      Join Date: Jun 2003       09-25-2009, 12:39 PM Reply
Jason, it would be a lot cheaper to put on a different prop than get the LY6. If you get the trim tab then the boat really doesn't need the bigger motor.

Thanks for all the input so far, now I will definitely look harder at the MCX, the only reason I am skipping the RTP is the dealers around here only order the MCX.
Old     (h2oproaccessories)      Join Date: Sep 2007       09-25-2009, 1:20 PM Reply
A lot of the dealers order them.... The only reason I can think is they are selling the horse power....

Even though you only see the horse power at the top end.

Most people hear "it's got a bigger engine" and that sells them.
Old     (snowboardcorey)      Join Date: Jan 2004       09-25-2009, 2:00 PM Reply
Not all dealers in the midwest only order the MCX, we typically stock a couple of RTP-1's in the X-2, we have one on consignment with an RTP right now, with the B.I. ballast upgrade kit.

At the end of the day many of our new boat customers want an MCX more so because its an upgrade rather than they think it actually pushes the boat better.

Older X-2's run a 13.7x17 prop most newer ones run a 14.25x14.5 which makes a night and day difference.
Old     (h2oproaccessories)      Join Date: Sep 2007       09-25-2009, 2:54 PM Reply
what prop would a 07' have?

I know when you look up NADA on them.... the upgrade does nothing for it. That's what I have seen.

New X2s (2009s n up)run an OJ 14.75 X 15.5 stock. They are awesome.
2007s ran a 14.25 x14.5

If you are going to drop close to 60K on a 2 year old X2 with the LY6 - do yourself a favor. Go to fanfare and pay a little more and go home with a brand new 2010 with your colors, options, and the MCX.

I was looking at a demo'd 2008 this time last year that had an asking price of around 60K. I spent almost 5K more and bought a brand new ordered 2009 to my specs.

Fanfare is a great program unless you are trying to sell a late model used MC.

My 09' right now is well equipped, and in this market I'd expect to choke on it unless I put it on the market for under 60K and was really patient - as in - next spring maybe. As a matter of fact - I listed it a month ago for under 60K with about 80 hrs on it - not one inquiry.

I hear all the time how great the MC's resale is, and honestly, right now, I laugh. I paid close to 65 for mine, and I put it in the water for the first time in April. If I wanted to sell it quickly right now, I'd have to list it for under 45K. Everyone wants a steal now - me included.

As for the MCX - I think mine does fine. Just added fly high and it still gets out of the water ok. Easy to work on as well. If I had to do it all over - I'd test drive the LY6 though. I slalom ski and a friend of mine likes to foot. 40mph at 4900rpm is just a little insane for me. I can reprop - but then when we are sacked out and surfing, that new prop isn't going to pull all that weight out of the water. The LY6 may have been a solution for me.

Thanks for the input Jerry, your situation is exactly why I want to try the LY6. I'm sure even the RTP would work great for wakeboarding with the right prop, but I would be taking away from the other end of the spectrum for skiing and footin'.
Old     (nbigger)      Join Date: May 2008       09-29-2009, 11:56 AM Reply
I think the LY6 would be sweet in that boat. My friend has a 06 X2 with the MCX we run 1200lbs on top of the factory ballast and it can have a hard time getting on plane. He has added a better prop and it was a big improvement but if it also had a LY6 it would be a monster.
Old     (boarditup)      Join Date: Jan 2004       09-29-2009, 12:18 PM Reply
Use the Acme 1479 prop. Wakeboard, surf, and barefoot with one prop with the RPT-1. The stock prop does not do the boat justice.

For a good example, I use the boat in ski shows. We towed a pyramid with it and two acts later, a barefooter, and later on, and around the boat slalom skier where the boat has to get out of hole really quick for the trick to work. All with an RPT-1 and an Acme 1479.
Old    ejojprop            09-29-2009, 12:40 PM Reply
The OJ 14.25 X 14.5 was stock on the boat at that time. We have since changed to a 14.75 X 15.5 on the MCX and the LY6 motors. Both sizes outperformed the other props while loaded and unloaded. The 14.25 X 14.5 may be a better option on the RTP-1.
Old     (witness140)      Join Date: Dec 2008       09-29-2009, 7:25 PM Reply
So I guess having an 09' means I have the 14.75x15.5 with my MCX.

I want to retain the ability to surf with fly high ballast and some people, yet get a bit more top end out of her. Am I dreaming here?

I ski in the course at 34.2-36mph, and occasionally my friend barefoots at 39.5-40.5mph. I'd prefer not to be at WOT and turning 4900rpm while he foots.

I was thinking I'd need 2 different props, a puller, and the boat on the lift to swap them when I'm surfing/riding vs bouy chasing/footing.

What are the specs on the Acme 1479? What pitch/diameter is that prop?
Old     (talltigeguy)      Join Date: Sep 2003       09-29-2009, 8:02 PM Reply
There has been a boatload (no pun intended) of discussion on the various engines on TMC owners website. The LY6 reportedly has no better holeshot than the MCX because the torque curves are virtually identical until you get OVER wakeboarding RPM's. That is when the torque curves separate in favor of the LY6. There were several who observed that they thought there was no difference in the hole shot between the two.

Note that the stock boat comes with the same prop whether it has the MCX or LY6. That should tell us something.

That is just what guys who know a whole lot more than me are saying.

Just checked out Acme's site, saw the specs on the 1479. Karl, you have mail.
Old     (dohboy)      Join Date: Aug 2007       09-29-2009, 8:34 PM Reply
Acme recommended the 1479 or if I wanted to lose another 2 mph the 1285. The 1479 would take 2-3 mph away from the top.
Old     (witness140)      Join Date: Dec 2008       09-30-2009, 5:54 AM Reply
Wow, take away another 2-3mph. Wonderful. Not going to be doing that on a boat that has a hard time breaking 39 already.
Old     (wake77)      Join Date: Jan 2009       09-30-2009, 9:31 AM Reply
I had the RTP in a 2006 X-1, have spent time behind the X-2 with the MCX, and now have the LY6 in a XStar. The X-2 was repropped and performed great, no trouble getting on plane with stock plus 1500 lbs. IMO, unless you want to spend the extra cash, the LY6 isn't necessary in the X-2. I believe that people request the bigger motor thinking it is a must, without testing the boat with MCX. Take the money you can save and spend a portion of it on a different prop and you'll be golden.
Old     (skibum69)      Join Date: Aug 2004       09-30-2009, 11:01 AM Reply
^^^It might be easy if all you do is surf and wakeboard, but when you need the top end for barefooting and skiing as well it might not be as easy as just re-proping. My DD 205 gets out of the hole great, but has just enough on the top end for footing, thats why I want to try both and see.
Now if we can get past this week of highs at 50 so I can get out on the water and do some testing.
Old     (witness140)      Join Date: Dec 2008       09-30-2009, 2:20 PM Reply
Jason - where you located?

Yeah, thats the entire point. Karl posted about the Acme 1479, and thats an example of re-propping. He indicates it's great for both ends of the spectrum. Then Rich indicated the boat would lose 2-3mph of top end.

2-3mph is 5-7 PERCENT off the boat's already dismal top end. Then add the FAE because we actually like to talk to one another in the boat....and wow.

That's why I'd reconsider with the LY6 next time, by at least driving one with that engine first. Remember - not everyone buys an X2 to surf and wakeboard exclusively.

Instead of spending an extra 5k on the motor you should just get the X2 with the RTP and wakeboard prop and buy an 80's prostar 190.

I have never been a fan of a boat(or car) trying to do too many different things. They usually end up doing everything mediocre at best.
Old     (wake77)      Join Date: Jan 2009       09-30-2009, 2:53 PM Reply
Jason---Have you considered another boat? I love the X-2, granted I don't ski (well since 2000) or barefoot (well since mid 90's) but I wouldn't think that the X-2 would be the best choice for you. IMO, there are many other boats that may better suit your needs, at a lower price than the X2.

If the X2 is the boat you absolutely want, and you want to barefoot (I think that the X2 with the MCX would still give you enough to ski), then maybe you need the LY6, although I would definitely try to test drive it, because I'm not sure if JUST that motor is going to give you the desired top end that is necessary to barefoot.

But I kinda like Brett's idea, my dad still has a 92 190 and that thing was/is a barefoot machine.

Jerry- I am located in WI

Jermy- I am considering an X-14v which is suppose to have a great ski wake, but supposably takes a ton of weight to get wake comperable to the X-2.

I am thinking about the X-2 for the roomyness inside and we do ~70% wakeboarding with the rest being skiing and barefooting. I looked at a forclosed Nautique 211 but the dealer said it would take a lot of weight to get the wakeboarding wake I wanted. So if I skied more than wakeboarded I would consider something like that or the X-14v.
If I was swiming in money and had 4 boat houses I would just get an X-star a PS 190 or 197, an X45 for surfing and and older Barefoot 200 for footing. But do not have either so I am trying to find a boat that is pretty good for boarding, but can still do skiing and footing halfway decent. That said I am not 100% stuck on the X2 it's just the best one we have tried out so far. I have a little work left to do, but I just about have my wife convinced to look at some Malibu's(now if the dealer would just return my message)

Sometimes it's easier said than done when you are working, have two kids, going to school to get your MBA and the week you have planned, the temperature drops to the 50's and is rainy and windy half the days.

I am not so sure I would skip on the nautique 211 so quick. I would think it would throw just as good of a wakeboard wake as the X2 with similar ballast setups. Just plumb in an extra sack in each rear compartment and maybe one for the front. The only thing I really don't like about the 211 is the lack of seating because of the walkthrough.

The X2 will have quite a bit more seating and storage.

Not to hijack this thread, but I have a friend with an 09 X2 for sale that seems to be a great deal should you want to take a look. 09 X2 with 78 hours, options from memory, cover, bimini, 2 tower speaker with amp, one wake board rack and one ski/surf board rack, MCX 350 engine, teak swim platform, stereo with remote, three outlet heater, adjustable wake plate, front bow cushion, single axle trailer, perfect pass. He has the title in hand. Very very clean boat always on a lift and under roof all season. Priced to sell quick $56,900.00 Location Norris lake Lafollette TN. Regarding the MCX engine, my
experiences one afternoon. With a full tank of gas loaded up with 8 adults} this X2 never seemed to ever need any additional power while wakeboarding, barefooting or running across the lake to get out of heavy rain storm in a big hurry. PM if anyone is interested I can send some photo's of the boat it is red and black with the trailer being red. FYI he is selling to get into a 214V back to more barefooting/skiing.

Billy,

You notice that 2 posts above the guy says 56k and priced for quick sale. 46K for a new boat that is 1 year older is a great deal.

That's what I thought... but it was legit. All cash, bank checked it out. Shipping company is coming today to get it from my house. The guy is apparently the owner of a bunch of gas stations there. Says he has a good amount of cash, and he definitely dressed the part. Now he wants to start an import/export business with me haha
