did you do a oasis report search on it to see what issues if any it has had. i have a 06 f250 6.0 and am having head gaskets replaced under warranty. its fairly common with these motors.

kind of off topic... does any one know if GM is still going to offer a 4.5l duramax in the 2010 Burbs? If so, is it available in the 1/2 ton version?

Thanks timmy!

I heard GM is dropping duramax completely...

Shawn it was up for 35k which seemed a little high but we delt with it. I thought it would be more around 30 or 32.

Nathan Ive also head that the 6.0's had problems like that. Im not sure what kind of research my old man did but it was probably legit. He wont buy anything used unless he is 100% knowledgeable of what its been through.

watch out with the 6.0 power stroke. I have an 04 6.0 and it's a POS. new head gaskets, turbo, EGR cooler and EGR valve, as well as new Computer and new wiring harness. with only 50,000 miles on it. NO ONE should have to go through that with a vehicle.

also the egr cooler and oil cooler are notorious for failing on them (trust me it is a pain in the @$$ to fix because im doin it on my 250 rite now) just make sure all the prevenative maintance is done and you should have a rock solid ride. congrats man it looks great!

You will hear lots of bad stories online regarding the 6.0, but there are 1000s of them on the road with no issues. We love ours, 90k miles and running strong. The best vehicle I have ever owned.

The 4.5 Duramax has been pushed back if not scrapped all together. From what I have seen it is still possible and if it does go in to production it would be more than likely 11 or 12 model year. It is stupid if you ask me. That motor would probably get 22+MPG in a 1/2ton pickup or Burb, and all the money has been spent on R&D, all they had to do was go into production.

As far as GM dropping the Duramax all together is false from what I have seen. All though the 2011 and newer trucks will have some serious emissions and other stuff on them.

Twitch, nice looking Excursion.

I agree we need to have a major shift towards diesel trucks. If our burb had a diesel we wouldnt have gotten the excursion. So maybe its a good thing they dont have diesels in burb..

How much weight are you towing with the Suburban?

Another positive vote for the 6.0's. I know they had problems, but my '06 has 45k on it. I drove it off the lot and it's never been back. PERIOD. Not a single warranty issue. I've never had another vehicle like that.

Fingers crossed, hopefully my luck will stay with me.

I am on my 5th Powerstroke,
No problems with the 7.4's Tranny issues on all

On my 6.0 litre I have had a few problems, egr, high oil pressure , couple sensors, 81K on it, no tranny issues.

Overall happy!

Nice rig, hope you got the big fuel tank in the Excursion, you can get over 600 miles per tank...

We were towing a sea doo trailer with 5 dirtbikes on it. It strains with that and its even worse with the epic behind it.

Any of you know nice rims to stick on it with a 6in lift? Those are Boyds and theres stock rims on it now, we could buy those in the pics probably pretty expensive or we could get some other ones. My old man is picky, but I think I want 20's. If any of you have good ideas throw em at me.

You complain about towing problems, then buy a different vehical to fix your problems with the most problematic powerstroke made to date, and now you want to put 20's on it with probably a 35" tire. Sounds to me like you are going to be right back where you started.

craig cox, by the way 03, and 04 had the most problems, 05 and up just need head studs, a lot better then any gaser.

I think the 6.0's are hit and miss from everything that I have heard and read and overall are a pretty decent engine. Keep an eye on your ball joints, those are prone to fail but it sounds like if you make sure they are properly greased you should be ok. I looked into the 6.0 Excursions quite a bit a few years back because I really wanted one but they were all going for $30k+ at the time with ridiculous miles and it didn't make sense to me to spend that on a used truck.

Thanks craig, Ill take that into consideration...

timmy!, Yeah this is what I've been hearing. We'll see how it goes.

Most of the negative comments you will hear are from those that DON"T own an EX. I have an '05 Ex and love it for what I do with it. I have easily towed my previous 29' DCB cat (9000 lbs w/trailer easy) and it handles my 24 Tige easily. Great vehicles, they have a few minor issues (turbo's, egr's etc) but there is nothing else in it's category
Congrats on the truck!
For wheels and everything else, check out trucktoys.com and then call Marty, he will hook you up.

6.0 have problems some run great they all have head gasket problems but head studs fix that problem. Nice setup I lifted it for the old owner. It is actually a Pro Comp 4.5" lift which is a 6" on the Excursions. I don't recall the old owners having any problems with that should treat you good.
