Lately I've been going for bigger air, and the landings are starting to hurt. I've been wearing a tensor bandage a lot figuring my body will toughen up and landings wont hurt anymore. It is my front (left) ankle/leg that hurts. What am I doing wrong? Or is it my binding placement?

Jesse- I noticed you ride an ICONN scarecrow. Isn't that a carbon fiber board? In my experience, carbon fiber boards have brutally hard landings. To help soften landings (without switching boards) you should land on edge. Instead of landing flat and going the direction of the boat, land on edge and continue your direction into the flats.

What kind of bindings are you using? Get something with a thick footbed. This helped muffle the shock from the hard flat landings. Board hull design could have something to do with it too.

I am riding on CWB Mobes ... (I know, I should get something with bettrer ankle support) but i just started.

Also, I'm not sure if the scarecrow is a carbon fibre board. I'm going to look into that.

Thanks for the advice guys!

i have heard from more than one person/dealers that the mobes are not very supportive....but of course you know that...
Matt has a good point, i try to land on edge alot cause i have a bad knee, (which is my front knee)and it helps with the shock of landing.
good luck.

How do I go about landing more on edge? When I try that, I feel like im going to fall backwards.

you know what...if you really want softer landings gat good bindings like parks belmont or zeus and get a board with a centre beam like the absolute....also learn to absorb your landing with your knees. I first had mobe bindings and a cwb infinity board...landings were hard...plus I broke my leg on one of them. Now I have belmont bindings and the cwb absolute platinum...needless to say all landings are super soft. A big difference !

Does the carbon fibre deal really make that huge of a difference? Is it a flexibility issue?

Also, are all cwb absolutes good for landings (as opposed to the platinum)? Is there anything that you dont like about the absolute?

I just did some research, and my board (ICONN Scarecrow) has a foam core. The CWB Absolute Platinum's spine is made out of carbon fibre which is suppose to make the landings softer. Read this:

the absolute is a great board...I ride it with the front centre fin removed....that way I canstill cut as hard as the board will let me. But on surface tricks she is nice and loose but somehow firm....its a unique feeling,,,mayby because of the centre spine. But I stress that most of all it must have the worlds softest landings. Those are hollow carbon fibre rods inside the board. You will find all the absolutes soft landings ...they all have the spine....I dont know if the platinum would be any softer because of the rods

thanks for the advice... im tempted to go trade my scarecrow in for an absolute platinum or something. my main fear in trying new things is the landings. i dont want to spend another couple hundred bucks tho. how much did u pay for your platinum?
