What would be the best boat for under 15k that would have a good amount of seating and still throw a good wake. We are really looking for something around the 13-14k range but can go up to 15k. This 13-14k would include just the base price. I can add a system, perfectpass, and ballast later. I am very open to suggestions at this point in time.

Supra saltare hands down. 22.6 foot long boat, same hull up to 2007. Massive meaty clean wake. Lots of room. Usually 330 hp motor, good for putting lots ballasgt on plane. Got mine for 6300. Put around 2000 in repairs, upgrades. Awesome boat.

Nautique Supersport .... they go back as far as 1995. Same as the old style Super Air.
We paid 18k for ours...but it was crazy perfect and had a new engine... I've seen them for around 13k though.

Also look
Malibu SunSetter VLX (I think there are some posted on here just recently)

The Sanger V210 is a smaller v-drive but it puts out a great wake. The only downside is the really low freeboard.

Mastercraft Tristar, I have seen lots of them around MN, I think its 19 feet long but has a crazy deep hull that tosses up a meaty wake.

Super Sport is the correct motorcycle, but there are others:

I purchased a 1996 Mastercraft Prostar 205 a few years ago. It has a solid wake from the hull they used for many more years. Open bow with a tower for about what you are looking to spend....

I like late 90's sunsetters. Same hull as last years V-Rides.

Same as Joshua, I have a 94 MC PS 205. Add a monster tower, ACME 11.5* prop, and as much ballast as you can fit and she is meaty as hell. I just wish I had $1500 lying around for PP Star Gazer. Paid $11,500 in 2004. Deals are out there.

First gen 205 here as well. We bought a 92 prostar, 285 HP, with tower for 10K, added stereo, racks, lights, 1500 lbs of ballast, and a bunch more and we're still under 12.5K into it. Very meaty wake with 1500 lbs and 6 guys. Just watch out cause its easy to dip the nose under. Wake is on the narrow side, so ride a longer rope, but its a great shape, and super firm.

Not trying to bust bubbles but the 92 hull is a bit different than the 94.

No, its not. The hull changed for the 96 model year. In 94, you got an EFI GM vortec motor instead of teh carbed ford 351, but the hull remained the same. The budget wakeboard chart has a well known error in it that states that the 94 hull is preferable. In 96, the hull was more elaborate, wider, heavier, and had taller gunwales. That was the only change ever made to the 205.

Since you're obviously not going to believe me based on my testimony alone, please have a read here: http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=5337

No I believe you without looking at the link. No need to get offensive and I thank you for the correction. Perhaps I am mixed up with the 190's history.

Sorry to come off like a douche. The 190 was mastercrafts bread and butter. It received hull changes a year before the 205 did, so 1991 and 1995.

Basically, the first gen 205 went from '92 to '95 and was good for wakeboarding. The second gen 205 went from '96 though '01 and was great for wakeboarding.

And, the 96'-01' 205 turned into the 205V, which then was first gen X-star, then X-2 and I belive current X-1. A little too expensive, but a sweet hull none the less. I still love my first get 205. I beat it and it keeps coming back for more. 1600+ hours.

Just get a boat that was good in it's day that still runs well (natique/malibu) and sack the sh*t out of it... you'll be good to go
Old     (guitsboy)      Join Date: Aug 2005       07-13-2009, 2:43 PM Reply
Correct. 96+ hull was the same as the 205v, first gen x-star, first gen x2, and current x1. Its actually all teh same hull, regardless of direct frive or V drive. At the bottom youll see recesses for underwater hardware in both DD and VD configurations.

What motor are you running, Mark, the vortec or the LT1? Either way, those motors are nearly bulletproof in the automotive world. Try a compression test some time, you may have quite a bit more life still left in that thing!

It's the Vortec and I will easily make 2000 hours out of it. I run about 3k in ballast with an ACME prop, she runs solid. I did rebuild the tranny in 2006 after running that much weight, she started to slip. My uncle is a mechanic that works on many inboards, so that was an easy winter job for us. For the money, I wouldn't trade it for anything.

93-97 Sport Nautique. Go with the Super Sport if you can find one for the price, the V-drive is a must. We had a 93 Sport (Direct Drive) and the wake was money. Same hull as '00-'06 SAN (someone correct me if I'm wrong there) so the more weight you put in it makes the wake get bigger and more solid, just like the SAN. Lots of fun with that boat, but a definate sacrifice in space. Should be able to find one from 12-15k.
