marius = huge consistant pop, ultra soft landings. trevor hansan rides it...nuff said

For You, the board thats fits your riding style the best.
For me, that would be the CWB Transcend.
Why? because it does everything I like in a board and does it well.
Great speed (not too fast or too slow, big pop, nice soft landings.
I also like the fin extensions that you can dial in for toe side and heel side edging.
If you are lacking skills on your toe side edge, then you can leave the fin extension in and if you are solid on your heel side edge, then you can take the fin extension out, pretty cool design if you ask me!!

I'm gonna go with the Recoil. Gotta be the 08 though, cause I hate those Bindings.

I also second the Shane though. Not so much the 140 though. I went with the 136.

oh, and why I like them. I love the pop on the shane, and I believe it's pretty forgiving. As for the Recoil, I haven't rode it much, but I like any company that tries new things. FLEX!!!

Slingshot Recoil

~Unbelievably Soft landings
~Crazy Pop... that is why it is called slingshot
~Fun to fool around on, doing surface maneuvers of all types
~Butters when you want it and carves really well on command too (this kinda fits into the "fun to fool around on" part)
~Innovational (voters on wakeworld agreed too)
~ made in the U.S.A. "great wood, great foam"

Agreed that the bindings ('07) were in need of some RnD, but i still thought they were great after you got used to the more snowboard style. the 2008 bindings are SOOOOO MUCH better... just got myself a pair in the mail in fact

ehh, I disliked the 07's so much that I decided to mess with the 08 slingshot bindings.

Ronix One Dark Core board.... I don't know if it is out yet... I got to ride it while they were testing it at owc.. It is so lightweight, it feels like half the weight of a normal board... I noticed a huge difference in my spinning. You know when you are doing a spin (on axis or off axis) you feel the swing weight of the board dragging... The biggest spin that i can do and ever tried is a 900... When I threw a 900 on the Dark Core board, I felt for the first time like a 1080 was achievable... If you ever see a dark Core board pick it up in one hand and, pick up a different board in your other hand... It's crazy awesome...

Hyperlite Tribute with white Murray bindings! I love the pop, hybrid rocker, shape, molded in fins that are enough to hold you in, but not enough to hold you back, Greg Nelson design, nuff said.

Murray bindings are amazing, enough support to keep your ankles on lock, not enough to hold you back. great combo!!

i have to go with the watson, granted its the same design for a couple years now, but i just love that board, can't get enough of it

I don't know how they compare, I haven't had a chance to take the sub 6 out yet... I think the sub 6 board costs like $800 bones though... That would suck on the day it broke...
Old     (joshbuzz)      Join Date: Sep 2007       01-30-2008, 11:33 PM Reply
yeah, sub6 costs a pretty penny!!

the dark core one is 600, not cheap either lol

As much as I hate to say it. I am riding the Byerly Monarch (PVC Core) and absolutely love it. The sticker price may seem ridiculous, but the performance is too.

It is so much lighter and snappier/stiffer that it feels like a big board on the water, but flicks like a small board in the air.

I think the new high-end cores are great and adjusted they are far less than the old honeycomb. They were 700+ in the mid 90's.

anyone ride the lf witness? I ride the substance, love the ride, hate the landings. 5'10", 180 lbs, any suggestions for a board?

axis not only is it great to ride but its the best looking board out there.
Old     (waketherainbow)      Join Date: Oct 2007       01-31-2008, 10:36 AM Reply
andrew, I feel the same way about the substanse. I am going to get the LF Watson this season. It is a little looser than the Substance when not on edge, faster, lands a lot softer, and overall a better board. IMO

tom i have an 07 watson love it but just got a deal on an 07 axis dont buy the watson till you try the axis

Tom,
Take the center fins off the substance it rides real loose, thats how I ride it forgot to mention that. Love the loose feeling it has. How does the axis ride? it doesnt even come with center fins does it?

I'll be pretty excited to try the new Murray. It'll be interesting to see what it feels like with the dual rocker.

o8 MURRAY with MURRAY BOOTS. The boots and board are awesome. The design and ride is like no other on the market. I can't explain exactly the feel of the board...just sum it up as..."it's awesome. It edge's perfectly, pops you huge, super light board, very cushy ride,it has tons of speed, very clean ramping the wake and landing the wake....I think the concavity at the tip and tail have a lot to do with that. IT IS A MUST RIDE BOARD FOR 08. Once you ride it, you will quickly see what I am talking about. Look at Hyperlite website or Wakeboarding Magazine has a nice shot of the bottom contours that illustrate it's uniqueness over all other boards. The Byerly Monarch and the Tribute are very nice boards as well. Not to put all the focus on Hyperlite....but they have some amazing new boards for 08...that the ride is so different but so predictable. they are just awesome. My wife is going to be on the Syn this year...which is the Tribute...just jazzed for a girl.

I already do ride the Substance without the center fin in, and I do like the way it rides. The only thing I don't like are the landings. I would like to demo the Axis and other boards. Does anyone know of a place to demo around Eugene (besides AWS in Portland)

how about the new "Gator" (Gator boards) "Ibex" "Covin csv1","Mana"(Ronix)or the Redesigned "Era" (Hyperlite).
Has any one rode or checkout any of these boards?

the new gator is like the byerly monarch, murray, sub6, etc. They are all new construction materials and EXPEN$IVE... soo very few people have ridden them. i might dare say that gator boards still doesnt hold the same amount of ground in the wake market as hyperlite... but i also dare say that gator boards is getting there and may even one day surpass by chance. seems Gator boards has made leaps and bounds the past year or so.

I am curious about the gator too, especially that new fancy fin system. Is there a video of it somewhere? or better pics that show its movements???

Just picked up at Byerly Monarch and bindings at the LA Boat Show and tried it yesterday. I was previously riding a '05 Premier which I loved. The Monarch is unbelievably light and rides similier to the Premier but rolls onto edge smoother, is faster and more pop. !

Whatever board you ride and have fun on is the BEST board!!!!!!!!!!1 For me it is the CWB Faction--consistent board with lots of pop and soft landings(for us old farts).

Byerly Monarch is the probably the best board I have ever been on, and I have ridden every Byerly shape since his first Hyperlite back in 01-02? The tribute is my second favorite.

if you go to Gatorboards.com they have links that goes to each rider and what they ride and FULL details about their boards...from each dimension and the whole detail behind it, its kind of a good idea and great pictures of all the boards.
