Riding is all about FUN. That said, riders get two passes, one pickup, who do you score higher?

Rider 1: pass 1: 50-50 the fun box, heelside w2w, toeside 1wake jump with indy grab,
Pass 2: heelside w2w, bunny hop 180, 1 wake half cab, heelside w2w w/ grab

Rider 2: pass 1: w2w tail grab, fall on scarecrow.
pass 2: w2w tail grab, fall on scarecrow.

Rider one didn't fall and basically did what rider two did so by more then 75% rider one wins.

I don't get it.

why is this even a question?

I'm guessing Rider 2 won and hence the question.

I am just seeing what others thought. The judges went with rider 2

Based on what you described, rider 1 should have won. he had more tricks to judge, although some were 1 wake only. But he also hit a rail.

Rider 2 went wake to wake but repeated the trick which is a no no, if they're riding in the advance division or higher.

Just my .02

So they basically were scoring rider 2 higher just for trying a more advanced trick. We all could be pros by that line of thought.

I agree Luke! haha I try 12's all the time, but I normally come up 900 degrees short.

no brainer to me, it's 1 trick vs 7. that's a shame.

a lot of judging in local competitions and such have switched to a risk/reward style. You get rewarded for trying to do something risky. I know this is how they scored the collegiate nationals because I was in the meetings when they were talking about judging. I think this system is completely bogus, obviously, especially on paper, rider one should have won. But as far as the people hosting the events stand point goes, this time of scoring creates more competition and makes people try things they normally wouldnt go for.

Freeriding ftw.

It depends...if rider 1 got on the internet to vent about losing a contest, then rider 2 should win by default.

Nope, neither rider was me, I just observed. Funny thought though.

I would say that it depends on how close rider 2 came to sticking the scarecrow. If tricks were scored strictly on a point system for each trick then rider 1 would have won.

"1 wake jump with indy grab, bunny hop 180, and 1 wake half cab" from rider 1 are all tricks that are worth pretty much nothing. Someone just carving around may show more control and end up scoring higher. It sounds like the judging came down to the wake jumps and because none of us were there it is really impossible to judge. Based on the tricks attempted, I would bet that rider 2 is actually better.

thats very interesting. i know the local comps I go to definitely dont do that, because Im always that guy that falls on a hard trick twice pretty quick and never places.

Is waving to the crowd still worth 50 points?

Cannot compute. 33.3% of score should be based on intensity and you have left it out. But here you go. Attempts mean nothing so throw out the crows. #1 wins unless #2 shows considerble more intensity on w2w.

If I'm the judge here, rider 1 wins by a land slide. He has shown a much larger bag of tricks (TS, HS & switch) even though most are one wake. If rider 2 is coming close to a SC, then where is the W2W 180s, half cabs, etc. I'm not seeing a kid having a SC and the next trick down is a W2W grab. If it is a risk/reward type scoring, hopefully all the riders know so they can at least attempt a raley or crow mobe.

How was rider 2 who is attempting scarecrows in the same heat as rider 1 who is doing one wake jumps?
Old     (jasonpav)      Join Date: Dec 2008       05-05-2009, 8:29 PM Reply
I'm guessing rider two probably knows more than just those two tricks so he should have tried different ones. Instead of trying a trick twice he rarely(I'm guessing) lands he should have done tricks that he lands fairly often and avoided repeating tricks. It doesn't take a scarecrow to beat wake jumps and indy grabs, but rider 1 should have one because he used a variety of tricks
Old     (wakemania)      Join Date: Sep 2008       05-05-2009, 9:14 PM Reply
Remember, rider 1 did have a W2W grab, the same as rider 2. Jason is right. If rider 2 is truly better, he should have put in a few more tricks between SCs. I don't even see how this is close. How can you say rider 2 looked better if the only thing to judge him/her on was one trick?
