So my friend unwinterized his Tige today, and found that when the boat is in gear there is a squealing noise behind the prop. At first the sound came when he had it in gear and reverse, but now it appears only to be in reverse. Anyone have any idea what might be causing it?

With the boat in the water ? If not you are hearing the un-lubricated strut bearing.

Not wise to put the boat in gear out of the water.

Don't ever put your boat in gear if it is not in the water.

You were hearing the shaft spinning dry in the cutless bearing.

Actually if you had to put it in gear on land for a short time for some reason, spray some silicone lube or even WD40 into the top of the propshaft bushing and that will keep it lubed for a short time
