Now do not EVER use your ball hitch again like that

The reason is the ball can easily snap in a shear load situation and launch. It has happened many times before. Even that strap breaking could cause thousands in damage to your truck.

Several years ago a group of people from Cali were down in Rocky Point on the beach. One of the trucks got stuck in sand, long story short the tow strap broke and took a little girls head clean off. They smuggled the body and head back to the US in the back of a pickup because they thought the Federales (Spelling?) would confiscate the body! True story!!!

Don't pull without something on the chain or strap!! A small piece of carpet will work fine!

It's funny how Uhaul brags about their low decks on the back of their trucks...maybe it's not such a good thing after all.

If you guys think this use of a strap is extreme or inappropriate, I would hate to see what you had to say about some of my own adventure pictures. As long as it wasn't a piece of home-depot rope there should be no problem with that.

And why is pulling with a tow strap any worse (as far as shear on the ball) than pulling a trailer?

ahaha what ever it was it worked.. no one was hurt and we can all laugh now... (the straps were from the trucking company that delivers containers)

That same thing happened to me when I moved from CA to AZ. Tried to back down my driveway at the old apartment to get the stuff out of the garage and got stuck on the back bumper of the u-haul. Had to get a tow truck out to pull me 6 inches so the wheels would be back on the ground.

ahah right on... yea people get stuck alot around here but most of the time it is like 18 wheelers... the old ford cant handle those bad boys...

Rod,

Much more weight when towing a STUCK Uhaul truck than pulling a trailer and boat. Plus think about the difference in weight. A 4,000 pound boat and trailer that moves freely or a 12,000 pound Uhaul truck with god knows what in it that is stuck, probably adding another 5000 pounds of weight to it depending on how stuck.

Please don't attach to ball like that. Attach to hitch. Plus the ball is meant to disperse weight from the top into the hitch, not from the side like that. You turn that 3 inch ball into a bullet once that little bolt shears.
