So I am finally starting to get consistant w/ my backroll (mexican style). How do I de-mexicanize it?

Don't throw your head down, stand tall at the top and take it up and over (ie. lead it with your chin and rotate around the handle).

Keep close attention to keeping both hands firmly gripped on the handle. Concentrate on this.

When I do this, I actually NEVER mexi my backrolls.

If a hand comes off - they are ALWAYS mexi style (yuck).

put ur chin on top of your shoulder to initiate rather than putting it on your chest.

Call me a newb but what is mexicanizing a backroll? I have seen my fair share of backrolls, just not sure what it means mexi style to not make it as cool.....

It is a backroll that looks more like a standing front flip. They just don't look as good to most people.

To get rid of it, do as people are saying...turn your head and look up and over your front shoulder. You can also think about having your chest open up more to the sky.

Keep it mexi style! It looks a lot better!

yup only looks good if grabbed or spun.

For me its all about the cut and watching the boat spin. by that i mean, when i take them big and progressive its always a late cut at the trough and my eyes are glued to the a$$ of the boat. 1) b/c i love to watch 2) b/c when I do a late (progressive) cut, if I throw my head i do a r2rev.
But if your cut is just slow cut in you can turn your head all you want it ain't goin progressive.

Thats just my take, from my riding. may or may not work for ya

Yeah, I really edge hard up and away from the wake. If you edge up and away then it is going to be hard to do a mexican one.

so a mexican backroll is just spinning the other way right? its like a hellside front roll basically?
Old     (eubanks01)      Join Date: Jun 2001       09-03-2009, 1:23 PM Reply
Yes, it looks one, but people get mad when you call it that.

nope. a backroll is a backroll. the difference is body position.

progressive backroll - your body is tall, stretched out. think of a reverse kart wheel.

mexican backroll - your body is all layed over and bent at the hips. think of instead of a kart wheel you do a roll on the ground and stand back up.

I think it is important to learn it both ways as you use both for different tricks down the road.
