Now living in Orange County -- where are the best places to ride? Seems like everything is so busy!

Welcome to So-Cal.
ten million people + roughly five public lakes = crap water

Thanks. Canyon Lake is private, what are the other options? Castaic? Elsinore?

Hi Chris, Canyon lake is private, but not for those entered in the contest. You can ride in the contest is what I am saying. As far as putting your boat in the water? Out here, Elsinore and Perris, the other way, Castaic. BUT the backwater at Canyon is as good as it gets out here. HTH, robyn valdez

Also Silverwood and Big Bear, San Vicente down by San Diego, right? (Haven't been to either).

The deal is that most of us ride local in the winter and during the summer make trips to Havasu, Parker, Mojave and Mead. Oh yeah, CentCal lakes and the Delta, too. I for one would consider leaving our boat at Havasu during the summer months, cuz between Soccer, Baseball and 15,000 PWCs, summer's not the time to be hanging at Elsinore.

If ya wanna fork out a few $$$ for a session, try Cutting Edge Ski School. they're located right in Orange County on IRVINE LAKE. $45.00 gets you a FULL twenty minute session- we've got 4 Nautiques- one's a Air that we load with added weight= sweet wake. For the money you can't beat it! How much does it cost to pull your ride out to Elsinore for crappy water????

$45.00 for a FULL 20 minute session, for the money you can't beat it??? ARE YOU KIDDING?????

How much does it cost to drag my boat to Elsinore for marginal conditions in the summer and decent in the winter......for $45.00 I can take 4 friends with me and have a better time.......

Or jump in someone else's boat and take my chances.......

So if someone wants 2 pulls it's going to cost them $90.00.......GOOD GOD!!!!
Old     (jbjboc)      Join Date: Aug 2004       09-13-2004, 10:01 AM Reply
not kidding gramps...... glad you like Elsinore-
I agree Cutting Edge pricey..... not everyone can afford it. The question above was what are the options for riding in OC.....I believe I gave an answer-
<<chill>>

Old    akman            09-13-2004, 10:17 AM Reply
Never said I liked Elsinore......

Said I would take my chances.....

No need for me to chill just shocked at your so called PRICES.

Chris for those prices you can come with me and just go first in the morning and save $35

Some other options are:

Elsinore, Perris, Castaic, Vail, Canyon Lake, San Vicente.....to name a few, some private some public.......If you hook up with someone brave enough for salt water then that opens up Long Beach Stadium Marina and Mission Bay.

There are a few living in the area that make weekend trips to the Delta would probably cost you about the same as $45.00 but you could take as many pulls as you want and for as long as you want, you just need to bring food.

There are others that make weekend trips to the river, again about the same as $45.00 just need food and a tent.

$45.00 for a WHOLE 20 minutes is absurd.....

GRAMPS- again I responded to the POST! Got a problem with that? Personally, I ride Canyon, Elsinore, and yes, the Delta a few times a month. I spend lots of $$$ traveling to ride. I also work a few evenings at Cutting Edge teaching those that have the stoke to ride but not the boat or other equipment required. You are lucky to own a boat, have time to ride with others that have time as well. For those who don't, they have an option.

BTW, don't <<chill>>. Live you're life uptight and over reacting..... You'll die soon and be one less rider " I know it all" rider I gotta deal with

I love this crap.

I think every year around Christmas we should have a WW Christmas extravaganza. Food, drinks, PWC burinings, Power turn death chambers, and a boxing ring. All the little fights that sprout up throughout the year can end with "I'll see you at the extravaganza!"

holla

and I will say it once again......

$45 for a 20 minute pull is ABSURD.

Really the only decent time to ride around here in L.A. (besides the winter months) is during the weekdays, or for like an hour at 6am. Thats one reason I'll be happy to eventually move away from L.A. Too bad, the weather here is always great for skiing. Water water everywhere (the ocean) and not a drop to 'board on. :/

Jeff,
it's cool that you posted an option in O.C. and It's probably worth it when you include the instruction, but $45 for 20 minutes is a bit steep. Most WakeWorld folks that I know (boat owners and mooches alike) like to ride at least 1 day a week, 2-3 times a day so you see where that could really add up. I'm not attacking you or the Cutting Edge so I won't be needing to chill.

Chris,
I have 2 suggestions for you; try one of the Canyon Lake contests (those are some great people down there) or another contest venue, or post in find a third/be a third. I can almost guarantee you will find people to hang/ride with and $20, help with cleaning the boat afterward, and a good attitude (most important on my boat) will get you a full day of riding.

I must reccommend Sean Jackson as one of the most high-class boat owners. The dude was injured, couldn't board, and still offered to take me out and pull me around. I was like, "is this guy for real?!" thanks for the pulls Sean. How is the recovery going?

Here is my 2 cents.

$45 is a bit steep for 20 minutes but lets look at the expenses.
Gas for the boat, Hourly wage of the guy driving the boat, Semi private lake, wear and tear on the boat after time, and most importantly smooth water and no crowds.
Now I agree that it probably doesnt work out to $45 for 20 minutes, but they are a BUSINESS. And They wouldn't be a BUSINESS if they didnt make money, that would be called a CHARITY. So stop player hating on them for trying to make a buck. Most of the people in Orange County can afford to pay that and Im sure for someone who is desparate to ride and doesn't know anybody with a boat, they are probably willing to pay that. Lastly, Try to rent a SAN or any other ski/wakeboard boat for an hourly rate(if you }could find one) and I would be willing to bet it would cost you at least $150 an hour.

And oh yea Sean is definately a stand up guy.
Sean I still need to get you out to VAIL before all the water is gone.

Late Erik

erik, i think the problem here is miscommunication.

maybe jeff failed to say that the $45 is towards 20 minutes of lessons.

maybe gramps didn't know that the $45 isn't just for pulls, it's also for lessons.

just a thought.

Gramps,
I have a feeling that if you counted up the costs that you incur owning a boat (ie gas, insurance, ca luxury tax, lake fees, loan paymants with interest). $45 per 20 minutes on a private lake with a coach and minutes from your house is pretty darn good.

Jeff, not trying to start a flame war with anyone, my personal opinion is/was that $45.00 for a PULL is too much and like I said ABSURD.

Now if what everyone is saying is true and it includes lessons then each his own if you want to play you have to pay, still high to me but who cares I have a boat.

Erik, I'm not hating on them at all I was just voicing my opinion on an open forum.

Interested in lessons try Brent Baum a lot cheaper, same boat, and he will travel.

Anyone else interested I have a friend with a SAN that RENTS it out for $300, FOR ALL DAY USE and that includes a full tank of gas, he also does week rentals but I'm not sure the price.

Shoot me an email and I will give you his number.

Ant Bug, Chester, Umali.....I will let you know the next time I dust off the SANTE.

Chester, Sorry about the thread hijacking.

Brent is a GREAT instructor!! (and a heck of a nice guy too) and from what I hear just awesome at karaoke Hey Jeff, what boat do you ride in at the backwater, I am sure that we have run into you a time or two (well, not literally....) Brent has known my kids since they were little and has had a great deal to do with their success at riding.

Sean Jackson is da man!

Brent Baum is one of the greatest coaches of our time.

I took a few pulls from Cutting Edge years ago, coaching not exactly geared for wakeboarding at the time, but that was many moons ago.

What the hell is the Extravaganza?

Joe... I think i've treaded on your territory!!! Never meant to start a fight......
Steep prices to ride @ Cutting Edge, but still an option for those that can afford it. I do know it's expensive for them to operate, like was pointed put in an earlier response. No-one is getting rich- I pull and teach for free (no pay) but I do get to ride for free on Irvine Lake after teaching a few hours! So, for someone with some $$, we got a spot for you to ride....
Besides the Canyon Lake tourny's, INT will also have a So Cal tour in 2005. Stay tuned for some details.............

I met Brent this weekend, he was a hell of a nice guy & an excellent boat driver. As for So cal wakeboarding as stated above it is limited. Drought conditions aren't helping a damn thing either. Havasu & the river always have water, you just have to be committed and get up at the ass crack of dawn to get good water. But when the air is 95 degrees & the water is 87 what's wrong with 5 AM?

Holy Cow!!!

Thanks for all the props from everyone, but now I can't get the poop eating grin off my face.

Thane (and everyone else for that matter), the recovery is going very well. I'm back at work but riding needs to wait a little longer. I have been wakesurfing for about a month now though, it's just great to be back on the water! EXTRAVAGANZA?

Derek, skin heads (not those Nazi ones) rule, and so do chicks that drive Tundras.

Joe, would you believe someone told me today that I look like Steven Seagal? I just about died laughing!

Erik, I'm down with surfing at Vail or I would be just as stoked to hang out/drive.

Jeff, no you da man! Is your next tourney this weekend?

Okay Gramps yeah your boat is sweet, the pic is cool, I love the color but what the hell is this dusting it off thing you are talking about? and by the way What Extravaganza?

Jeff hope to see you up there this weekend if i make it there early enough i'll search you out and then you can put me to work!

Hye TeamValdez! I ride behind a purple X-2. David Harry and Melissa's boat... really good people, you might know them?

Gramps... it's all good, and no worries here with your posts. I think lessons are good- when you seldom ride with people that are better than you, it's hard to progress and learn new stuff figuring it out on your own. Or even learning the basics? Or for any other reason....Paying fee's always sucks over riding with the bro's all day- no doubt there! As for the Xmas WW party to duke it out? I'd rather have a WW day where we ride and bro down.... Whos with me???????

It's a fishing lake for the most part. No other riding allowed beyond Cutting Edge. Part of why they charge the 45 for 20 minutes! I might be able to hook something up as the season gets later though- The school gets real slow as winter approaches

Hey Sean, yeah our tournament is Saturday. If you get a chance, It'd be great to see you there! Did we get you a T-shirt last time? Regardless, we owe you big for driving!

Randy, hope to see you there as well. The people are really cool, and there are usually a few volunteers, but we can always use any help out that is offered. Tons of chaos behind the scenes, even at the best of comps!
