I live in Iowa and we are thinking about planning a week long boating trip this summer. Have been to Ozarks and TRL in the past but looking for somewhere where there isnt as much boat traffic on the weekends. Anyone have any ideas?

Bull Shoals Lake...it is a big lake and there usually isn't a whole lot of traffic on it and you can always find calm water.

Central Wisco is cool
Lots of lakes, all dead calm during the week, weekends get a little busy but not too bad.
Google maps - Castle Rock lake, Lake Sherwood (my home lake), the Wisco rivers runs through too

Here is Castle rock lake (this one is pretty large, prob like 15 miles long or so then it doubles back for another few miles... kinda shallow though)

I heard they drained Bull Shoals, the water is poisonous and any shots you see of it in the forthcoming Hyperlite movie are computer generated (I still can't believe Murray green screened the blind tree judge)...everyone stay away please but here's a peek:

Delavan, WI gets very busy during the weekends but during normal week days it is good. I can set you up with house rentals that include piers, etc too.

Alright, not trying to plug to hard here but the movie Deviant was shot in MN and WI, might want to check it out for some great ideas, movie should be dropping this spring.

For an advanced screening check out the premier party on April 4th at 7pm. Held at Midwest MasterCraft!!!

Plug over, tons of awesome riding spots around the area, if you make it to the Twin Cities I'll be riding a couple of different lakes.

Just stay away from Lake Wisconsin...

If you do end up on Wisco there is a hotel like 5 houses down from me (next to a boat landing), you can keep your boat at my house.... we also have a spare room at the house too if need be.

This would be a trip that we would take with the boat and RV. Have a 38' pusher so accommodations not a problem. We are looking for decent sized lakes that we can find good water and beaches. We would prefer to just camp at the lake. I know the lakes here and Iowa pretty well, but just wasnt sure what other secrets the midwest has to offer. I appreciate all the offers of hospitality.

northern Minnesota & northern Wisconsin are both awesome. You'll never have a problem finding butter.

Bill, Fairport State Park on the Mississippi River would work great for you. Plenty of backwater that doesn't get busy. Email me if you go, a quick once over with someone who knows the area would be recommended. It is just up river from Muscatine Iowa.

Old     (sidekicknicholas)      Join Date: Mar 2007       03-06-2009, 10:37 AM Reply
Nope.... I ment like, end up coming to Wisconsin as a whole.... Lake Wisco is like 40 min south of me.... My aunt and Uncle might be buying a restaurant on the lake though, so I maybe spending some time there if that goes through.

Homes there are pretty pricey correct?

>>My aunt and Uncle might be buying a restaurant on the lake<< Do you know which resturant?

Yeah it's getting pricey there, all the chi-town people coming up, buying the original cabins & building new monsters in thier place.... sucks...
B.T.W. I am a F.I.B. to, but our cabin is almost the same as it was when my grandpa built it in 1945!

Haha, I have no issue with "F.I.B.s"
our lake is that way too... All the little cabins are these monsters that put my house to shame... oh well.
Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison all flock up on the weekends, but Monday through Friday is butter.

I don't know which place it is, I can try and find out over spring break or something.

What part of IL are you from?

I worked with a Woman 2 years ago from Roscoe... Brook Zamooto (s.p.) ....she is like 28~, I know she rides quite a bit....

I'll check next time I'm home,
are there a lot of people who ride on Lake Wisco?

My buddy used to date her.... We cross paths every now & then...

There are a few people riding out on Lake Wisco, it gets to be more & more each year (used to be just us a few years back). The lake gets blown out real easy, so you just need to know where to go.
