Water temp & changing the impeller - Supra SSV????

Has anyone changed the impeller on their SSV? IF so, is it difficult or doable by a normally mechanically savvy person? I noticed my temp was running a little hotter than normal the other day. A friend of mine says that's when you should change it. Advice, suggestions?

You can do it! It's not hard it just takes a little time.

I change mine every season, it is a good practice. I was shocked the first time I changed mine out, it was thrashed. I have a direct drive, so it is a piece of cake, those v-drives take a little more effort, but mechanically it is easy to do. I actually bought an extra impeller that I keep with me on the boat, just in case.

you cna do it , but be prepared for some bloody knuckles...lol. The water pump houseing is tough to get too. There just isnt' alto of space in the SSV engine compartment, but it's an easy job.

Erick, if you don't have a water strainer check your trans cooler first. It has a screen on the front of it that will clog up and make the engine run a little hotter.

Get yourself an impeller puller for $50 and save yourself the blood knuckles. Trust me you wont regret it.

Can anyone post where to buy an impeller puller? I didn't even know they had such a device!

Kevin, I've got an SSV also and could never get my impeller out until I got the idea to lube the housing with binding lube. Worked like a charm! Lube it up and take a small pair of channel locks and give it a good solid tug. should come right out. Let me know how it works!

Pete's right, I thought my impeller was shot until I pulled the trans cooler off and cleaned it out. It was a pain in the a**, but didn't cost anything.
