6x9's for the boat?

I just got a new to me 06 Calabria Pro V, the boat has 4 6x9's in the cabin and 2 Lightning audio double can's on the tower. 2 of the 6x9's are Arc Audio (floor) and the other 2 are Kicker's (dash). I'd like to replace all 4 with a matched set- any reccomendations? I'm swapping out the Arc Audio 5150xxk for a Kicker IX500.2 amp.

I am not a stereo guy really, meaning I don't know my stuff all that well, but there aren't a whole lot of options for 6x9's if you want a true marine speaker is there? At least not anything really good. I wonder if the Polk DB series 6x9's would be a good option, especially for the price of $100/pair. Lots of people use to rave about the 6.5" DB's as interior speakers. Also, I think they are marine certified if that makes much of a difference. I see the MM series 6x9's are also "marine certified" as well. Might be a good option as well? I don't think JL, wetsounds, exile, Bullet, etc.. make marine specific 6x9's. What about pioneer, RF, Kicker, Focal, etc?

I dont think I really need a marine speaker, the boat stays covered when not in the water, and I havent had any water spray in the boat yet, I suppose the two near the floor might get wet, but that's the price I pay for buying a boat I guess....

Nothing is really wrong with it, just want everything to match and sound good. I think I have a small case of OCD. I took all the stereo equipment out of the boat the day I bought it, just so I could re-wire it the way I wanted....

I used to run 6x9'son the tower and they sounded really good. I would take a look at the JL Audio C2 - 690tx and the Boston Acoustics SR-95.

These are going to upper end for the 6x9 market.

I uaed to run Boston 6x9's on my old boats tower and they sounded great.
I upgraded to Arc 6.5 in my new boat interiors and love them. I imagine the Arc 6x9's would sound great also?

There are many decent 6x9's out there... Marine grade tops are JL, Polk, MB Quart, JBL... Non marine are Pioneer, Kicker, Boston, soundstream, ect... What you want to spend will determine the grade you want... Do you favor a specific brand? That will help...

Well I have the same boat as you but a 2008. I have 3 sets of 6x9's in the boat.

I have 1 set of the Polk DB 6x9's (on the floor)
I have 2 sets of the WetSounds 696rs (1 set on the dash and 1 set in the bow)

Reasoning for HLCD's in boat: I thought WetSounds made the best 6x9's on the market so I just bought them without thinking.

Note: Also have the WetSounds threesome on the tower...

I used to have the Boston Acoustics SR-95 all in the boat--I threw them away.

Holy batman, that system must murder your ears in the boat when turned up.

It's all about tuning when you do HLCD 6x9's in a boat... We did a cruiser 2 years ago with 4 WS 696rs's, 2 pro80's, 1 15" kicker because he wanted throw like a wakeboat and didnt have a tower.. The 4 6x9's are in cabin and we mounted the pro80's off the transom split, with the cans unseen and just the face screwed to the fiberglass.. They sound pretty good still!! But it is tricky to tune properly It really is about what YOU want and what YOU want to spend

Thanks for all the input! I want the system to sound clear and clean. I went over to the local stereo shop last night and the guy tried selling me a bunch of Rockford Fosgate stuff- but none of it was hooked up so I couldnt tell what they actually sounded like... I'm going to check out another place tonight in Modesto- I've always been a big fan of Kicker and JL Audio products. I found that one of the 6.5" in the tower is torn, so now I get to replace all 4 of those too!!! Do Class D amps really have that much of an advantage over the A/B amps?

Matt- where did you mount the set in the bow? Down low by the carpet facing each other, or????

If you like JL, go with them.. They are one of the leaders in technology and the best sounding speaker... Also yes to your question, class A/B is the oldest power supply set up... G/H class is better and The "new" D class is the most efficient of the 3...

Steve I have an 08 Calabria team V that has 6 Boston 6x9 they sound decent I have always liked the way Kicker stuff sounds but thats me.

Steve- They are in the bow. Essentially they are mounted in the backrest of the vinyl if that makes sense.

For $85 on amazon the Polk Audio DB691 seems like not a bad deal. I'm happy with those which I have one set on the floor

Well I went to the stereo shops and ended up with 2 sets of Rockford Fosgate T-1693's. They sound really good to me! I dont see how I could another set in the bow, my boat has map holder pockets there and I cant even get my hand behind them. Maybe the seating is different.
