what is the best wet suit?

depends on what temps you are looking at.

thanks, i'm not sure of the water temp here in the New Mexico winter i'm sure its between 55-40 degrees. somewhere in that range.

I got a quicksilver hyperstretch 2/3mm and really love it!!! I found it on ebay for 98$!!!

the best wetsuit is a drysuit

I live in Quebec, Canada so I can agree with it!!! I can say that we are pretty tough here... I put my wetsuit when the water and the temperature drop under 60°F.

I agree with Andy -- best wetsuit is a drysuit. For the folks I ride with in Seattle, a drysuit is a game-changer.

all you should need for winter lake riding is a 3/2 or a 2/3

but if its below 50 degrees get a 4/3 and a rip curl f bomb it got this red fabric in it that way warm.

whatever you get make sure it fits. tighter is better then loose.

if its loose it will flush cold water in and out.
if it fits you stay warm and toasty.

and with suits like the oneill psycho 1 or 2 or the rip curl e bomb dont be afriad to get the 4/3. they are super flexible and stretchy and less restrictive then most 3/2s

Dry Suit is the best...better than any wetsuit -they're amazing.

Most modern wetsuits are semi-dry suits anyway. O'neil make great suits, my mate has a Mutant 4/3 which is like the previous model to the Psycho if you will, and he is real happy with it. I have a Billabong Foil 4/3, which you can get for about 2/3 the price of the Psycho (unless you want the Andy Irons Platinum, then they're about the same price) mine has been keeping me warm all winter surfing down here. I can be in the water for nearly 10 minutes before I actually get wet. Really flexible as well, I don't notice any restriction at all when paddling or riding.

One other thing. A few years ago there were a lot of seriously overpriced gimmicks like titanium reflective layers in the suit. Not sure if they're still around, but don't waste your money on them. It might sound like a great idea but reflecting heat back to you through water inside the suit doesn't work, apart from maybe in your head. In air it would work for sure, but water is a far better conductor (robber) of heat than air.

I had the Jet Pilot Chamber, and loved it! JP makes some really nice suits.
although, you cant really go wrong with O'Neil, Rip Curl or any of the other surf companies who have been making suits for over 20 years.

Completly not true buddy...when's the last time you went out and bought a new wet suit and wore and t-shirt under it and didn't get it wet.
O'Neil Dry Suits...can't say enough good things about them -all the manuverability of not wearing a wetsuit, and the warmth of wearing one.

check out perfski.com....they have a ton of stuff in stock and a lot of it is on sale.

the cool thing about a drysuit is you can go back out for another set and you remain warm and dry THE WHOLE TIME....no cold water comes in that you must warm up with your body temp, no getting into a cold wet wetsuit. If you have used a drysuit you know that no wetsuit can even come close. I will say that my drysuit does leak some water in past the seals but since its so little volume of water that it does not bother you at all, I bring another set of dry sweats to change into for round two. I use a barefoot international drysuit since its the toughest one out there and lasts for 4 or 5 yrs easy.

Justin, I totally agree the a semi-dry suit will not keep you dry like a dry suit will, and I probably should have said high end, because I'm sure there are still companies churning out the same old designs and technology year after year and selling them cheaply.

The term semi-dry suit doesn't really make sense to me. It's either a wetsuit or a dry suit and there's nothing in between, I guess it's mainly a marketing term...

However a semi-dry suit like mine does a far better job keeping water out than any other suit I've ever worn. I can walk out into the water up to my chest and get just my feet wet, if I was to come back in at that point and I had a t shirt on underneath it would be mostly, if not completely, dry, even with the zip submerged, but you're absolutely right, water does get in eventually.

O'Neill Psycho 2. Most flexible warmest suit out there. Also with a pair of O'Neill Psycho FLX 1.5 mm gloves and you will be the warmest rider in town. You will feel like you are in FLA all year round. Hit us up at Performance Ski and Surf, we got a ton of suits in stock.

+1 Dry suit.. you can roll that thing on the water all winter, when the water gets barley warm enough just run shorts.. my .02

One more vote for an Oniel dry suit.
I have wet and dry. I never even bother with the wet anymore.
One thing to remember, the oniel has a different more comfortable collar, but you have to fold it "in", not out. Out leaks, in is water tight.

ive ridden in a dry suit once and i dont want to again. i felt very restricted. a good flexible wetsuit allows much more mobility in my opinion to a drysuit. but then again i mainly wakeskate and i need a lot of mobility in my legs while i ride and i dont like the baggy legs of the drysuit. with wakeboarding you arent moving your legs so you dont notice it as much.

Jack, also wake sites arent going to be the place to get good suits. they generally sell the more recreational suits with flatloc seams and basic not very strecthy neoprene. you need 100% sealed seems at least.

4/3 Psycho 2 is where its at. rockin it a few weeks after christmas w/ some gloves and closetoes and i was good to go. pour a little warm water inside before you hop in and you're ready to go.

Another vote for the O'Neill Psycho I 4/3 wetsuit. As others have said, sometimes I'll take a set without any hard crashes and be completely dry when I get back in the boat.

I've been selling wetsuits for going on 24 years...and you owe it to yourself to consider the Oneill Psycho II. For warmth, comfort, fit and performance...its truly a hard suit to beat. Its alot of money, but if you use it...worth it. If you can't swing the Psycho 2, the Psycho 1 is also a great suit.....but for durability and overall performance...the extra money is worth it. I've never had a customer who bought one regret it. Again as stated by everyone else...it depends on your climate / how warm of a suit you need / want. They do offer it in a 3/2, 4/3 and 5/3. jack, go to a surf shop and try them on. you have to make sure it fits perfect. and support your local shop. its kind of lame when you go to a shop get the info and customer service and then buy it some where else. if you buy online good luck and hopefully you get the right size. tighter is better then looser

i wish i had a shop, i live in new mexico and i have no shop.

Fit is extremely important, you really need to try them on. I think it is very hard to buy online.

Dry suits are great, but they aren't as versatile.
If you do multiple sports, ie. dive, surf, board a good 3/2 will get more use IMHO.

This is the dry suit I have...in my opinion, its the best for winter riding -I don't wear a full wetsuit while wakeboarding, its way to restrictive for m liking...
