I finally got some pics of the new truck with the boat attached, albeit on a stormy day today. I've definitely fallen in love with this truck. I christened it by putting close to 1,000 miles on it driving up to the CIE Spring Ride and back. It's a 2005 Chevy Silverado 3500 8.1 with the Allison transmission. I can officially say that it blows away my 2000 Ford F350 V-10 in the towing department. I easily did 65 towing the boat over the Grapevine and probably could have done 70+ if I wanted to put my foot into it. Most of that was at 3000 RPM with the occasional downshift to 4000. Basically, if I want the truck to move, even if the boat's attached, I just push the gas. I could hardly tell that the boat was back there. It reminds of driving a diesel. I was very impressed. I assumed that awesome performance was going to cost me in the gas department, but I just did the calculations and found that I was getting 11.3 MPG without the boat attached and about 9.5 with it attached. Anyway, enough gushing about my latest acquisition. Here is what they look like together...

Nice! Still looks like that boat will swallow it, but you cant really get anything bigger (semi?). All jokes aside, very nice truck!

I like your new tower much better than that carbon blade. In Dallas they aren't ordering those anymore and are going strictly with the Illusion. Nice setup.

I just picked the boat up from the Malibu factory on the way to Spring Ride. Because of supply issues, they've stopped offering the Blade tower, so they thought it best that they take it off my boat. So now I'm an Illusion X guy! Although I loved that Blade tower, the Illusion X is treating me right so far. On the plus side, there are more options as far as accessories go for this tower. There really wasn't anything available for the Blade. One of the coolest features on this one is an elaborate spring system that holds the weight of the tower when you're folding it. My 4-year-old could hold the weight of the tower with this system in place. You can even adjust the spring tension depending on the weight of the accessories you have added to the tower. It also has a hole where the rope attaches so that it's easy to put it on. On the Blade, anybody shorter than me (6'4") couldn't reach over the top to put the rope on. The down side is that the bimini is a little smaller and more complicated, but it has a zipper on the back of it, so I'm assuming there is a way to extend it even further. Plus, it's not as unique of a look as the carbon fiber Blade, but it's still pretty damn cool looking when compared to most towers out there.

Nice, I was just curious. I love the way the Illusion looks, especially with all the chrome and polished goodies bolted on. -Steve

Wow, that's an amazing trailer. Extreme makes mine, but they didn't give me the "pimp" package!

Dave, They do make a bimini extension that offers another foot and a half of shade. We have the LSV and love the extension. I've heard with the VLX you just have to be careful of decapitation when entering the boat from the back with the extension on.

Rich - Who has that 247 at WSA? I saw Hoffman at the 66 bridge on a VLX (I think) when we were driving over Saturday evening. Does he have a boat for personal use?
