I went to the lake yesterday and was thinking just before wake skating about all the people up North that got dry/wet suits or even winterized their boats already. Been there and done that, much better this way. FLORIDA.

We went to the lake friday. The air temperature was 65 and the lake water was 60 degrees. Needless to say, it was cold, even with a wetsuit on. I think it was cool just to say i was riding in November in Kentucky. We winterized the boat when we got back from the lake

Must be nice! Actually, being an old guy I look forward to the change of seasons and a temporary break to heal up and enjoy other activities. I'd miss snow in FL. Land of the retired blue-hairs doesn't float everyone's boat!

dakid. I've been here about six months so I haven't evacuated yet. Tampa hasn't been hit in a long while from what I hear. KNOCK ON WOOD.

Yeah, i will stay in ohio and ride 4 months a year and not worry about hurricanes. Actually we dont even get tornado's in the northeast corner. I think if i were to move anywere it would be arizona. Florida is too over-populated.

Rick P, that is an incredible background. You guys definately take the scenery cake. Too bad its so friggen cold. I trunked it yesterday & it was nice, a little cool but not bad at all. Our water never really gets too far below 55 degrees but drysuits are nice for that. I rode with a kid from BC once & I was freezing my ass off and he couldn't get over how warm it was, you thick blooded Canucks.

I'll stick to California, because of many reasons. ie. I can surf & wakeboard within 20 minutes of my house & drive for three hours to snowboard.

It is beautifull here, this heron followed us around most of the morning. You get used to the cold, i grew up in a colder climate than vancouver.

Mike on that old premier I feel like I can do anything, of course when my head smashes into the water reality sets in. Ive tried others as well and never found any better. Ive found that the hyperlites seem to not chip as easily as other brands.

Greg, read eagleJ post (With drysuits, it was comfy!). If I ever move back up North I'm defiantly investing in one. Have you been snow boarding yet or is it the cold with out the snow? My boy Futch made it in from the ROK. Stayed there a little over a month longer for UAD. He's home for the next couple days then going to come back down and go out the weekend of the 19th and 20th. Seen these people the other day with wetsuites and dry suits on. That's how you know you've been in Florida to long!

Old    lunaraven            11-09-2005, 3:24 PM Reply
Lucky Guess, its Allouette. I only go to Pitt a couple times a year because of the sand bars, logs, and lack of a launch pass. Your moored in Deas right?

Yeah, Florida is beautiful too... If you're into suck.
Lived there for a long time. Great for wakeboarding, NASCAR, not wearing shoes in public bathrooms, and sleeping with your sister. I didn't have a sister so I never quite fit in.
Glad to be in Ca.

Old     (lchamaschuk)      Join Date: Feb 2002       11-10-2005, 8:31 AM Reply
Rick, yes we normally moor at Deas. We pulled the boat out at the end of Oct (hadn't been used since August because of injuries!). Water temp & air temp that day were both around 46-47!

We used to ride in Pitt years ago but Deas is more convenient now. You need a launch pass now for Pitt?
Old    lunaraven            11-10-2005, 8:51 AM Reply
$10 to launch at Pitt everytime, Allouette has a pass for $50 a year. I have never rode Deas although I was going to hit Riders Realm up a couple times in the fall because of having no willing driver but someone always came through at the last minute.

I've only seen only alligator in the lake and that was the first time I put the boat in the water down here. I'm not to worried about it.

Reasons I love Florida:
1. I live on a private ski lake, boat's in the backyard in the water. AND I'm not a millionaire, and I don't have to move to a desolate area to afford it (try that in CA).
2. Rode yesterday Air = 87/H20 = 75 (try that anywhere north of Los Angeles)
3. No earthquakes (at least with Hurricanes we have a weeks warning)
4. No state tax
5. No annual vehicle inspections

Whoever said that Florida was just rednecks sleeping with sisters must not have been south of the panhandle.

Whoever said that Florida was overpopulated can't be from California.

Reasons I hate Florida:
1. Hurricanes
2. Mosquitos
3. Alligators (although I've lived on my lake for 5 years and I've only seen one)
4. Humidity
5. Snowbirds down south
6. I don't speak fluid Spanish.
7. Not many locals, most folks in Florida are from up north.

All in all... I'll stay. If I were to move, it'd be North Carolina, near Hyco.

I would have to echo Scott's points about Florida. Quite often we ski well into December (no wet/drysuit necessary) or maybe even early January. We usually go snow skiing the first week of January, so its always pretty cool to one day wakeboard and the next snowboard. 1 week of snow is enough though.

If you truly wish to ride comfortably in cold water put on a neopreme skull cap. 40% of the heat from your body emits from your head.

Around Xmas I head down to Mexico and wakeboard every yr, its nice but the heat kills me. I find that I can ride much longer in cold water.

Tips for cold water riding. If you have the plastic speedo pickups, make sure you break the ice before backing in. Also, clear the ice out before loading on trailer.

Well, I went out today on the CT river. Water 47, air 43. Drysuit, neo gloves. Not bad, but it was windy too. Didn't see any other wake boarders out there. Got back on the platform and showered hot water on the toes. Felt good. Keeping the boat warm at night with a portable bathroom heater blowing on the engine compartment. I'll be out Sunday if anyone wants to come out.

After the run

Go Bill!! your hard core. Keep an eye on the heater. Ive used one in the past when it got below freezing up here on the panhandle of Fl but the thing died and its a good thing it didnt stay below freezing. You may want to use a drop lightwith a long life bulb as a back up heater, just in case.

Rick - you should have emailed me! I would have taken you out on the Deas! Well, before we got injured anyway.

We haven't launched at Pitt for many years - back when we had the Chaparral. That was when they had a gravel ramp, and we were in the old truck which didn't have 4x4, so we got stuck pulling out the boat. Some guy pulled us out, with his boat attached to the front of our truck. Truck pulling boat, pulling truck and boat!

Airfreak, you're just nutz. It's time to hit the slopes!

Went out on the CT river again yesterday. Air 55, water 45. Was good. Got in 3 runs. Water was great. No one else out there, well a couple of fishermen looking at me like I was crazy. Hot shower sure helps for the toes and hands.

Hey Scott how much colder is it going to get? My first year here. It's nice being out of the cast and being back on the lake. I'm only able to wakeskate, but it's better then just drinking on the boat. I've been working on switch-stance. Any plans on Friday?

Wow, sorry Jarred, didn't see this post. It's going to be getting down into the 40s at night and the highs will be in the upper 50s. The lake's cold now (cold for me at least), and I'll be donning my shorty wetsuit next time out. It'll be fullsuit by January.
