Ok folks, I need some feedback on this boat, given that I am considering purchasing it. I know 'some' of the history of the Santera, but probably not all of it. Anyone have any personal experience with this boat (good or bad)? Comments? Opinions? I know this model is no longer being built by Supra, but I'm not sure that should be a deterent to me as far as buying one.

The 2000 Santera I'm looking at is fairly well equipped (320 MPI motor, Tower & racks, decent stereo, tandem axle trailer, stock covers, and most importantly, only 75 hrs of use). The amount of storage in the Santera is amazing to me (given that I own a smaller DD right now), and the boat seems like it would be very comfortable and capable.

Please keep in mind that whatever boat I eventually purchase will have to serve duty for all types of water sports (wakeboarding, tubing, skiing, and some cruising). I'm not really looking for a wakeboarding 'specific' boat, but would still like to insure that the Santera would throw a decent wake for boarding.

Let the information sharing begin.............

I have a '99 and it is incredible. I'd put the wake up against any boat and it handles GREAT. Not the best slalom wake, but definitely usable. I really couldn't give you a downside to that boat.

I'd be a little concerned that a five year old boat only had 75hrs on it. When a boat sits for that long with little to no hours on it, they tend to have problems with seals, and gaskets. Definitely demo it out on the water, and have a certified boat mechanic look at it extensively prior to purchase.

While the Santera isn't a wakeboard-specific boat, the 2000 appears to have the same hull as the 2001-05 LaunchSSV/22SSV. So, you definitely can produce a good-to-great boarding wake, depending on the ballast setup.

It also rides well--not as good as a large I/O with a lot of deadrise, but good for an inboard. If it has a hydraulic wakeplate, it's probably acceptable for recreational slaloming as well.

I second Cliff - thought I got a great deal on a MC with low hours (87HRs)- turned out I had a lot of gaskets seals to replace including tranny. Got expensive real quick! Have it checked real good!

Good advice guys regarding a mechanical checkout. Luckily, for me anyway, I have a history of building and racing Pro Stock drag cars, so I'm a pretty seasoned mechanic. I had already planned to check in with a marine mechanic friend of mine to have him familiarize me exactly what he'd be looking for (or at) if he evaluated the boat. An on the water test will also be part of the evaluation.

Thnaks for the comments so far. Keep 'em coming.

I have a 2001 Santera and it is the same as the SSV except playpen seating up front with ski locker, the stadium seating in back, and the cooler in the floor moves the gas tank forward eliminating the ski locker storage. In 2002 they added the sink behind the drivers seat and the walk-thru in the back. Oh, and no stock automatic ballast system.
