As long as it's not in the engine compartment...so they say. It says it isn't ignition proof, but I think it's just a liability thing. The motor is completely sealed so I'm not sure where the spark would come from. Someone will chime in & say that the Jabscos have some sort of "internal mechanism" that makes it ignition proof. But I've never heard an explanation for this "mechanism". I've seen numerous boats on other forums that have them mounted in the engine compartment with no troubles...so far. Just run the blower to be safe.

An ignition-protected marine electrical device carries a USCGA certification, and probably a few other, it's not just a marketing gimmick

Kevin, the spark can come from the pumps metal armature spinning around inside the pumps electrical windings. An ignition protected marine rated electrical device is designed to contain any sparks. Oh, insurance and USCG investigators are pretty good at spotting non-IP devices while sifting through the rubble of what used to be your boat!

A ballast puppy should flow a little more than a water puppy. Don't recall exactly I think 600 gph vs 800 gph, I'm sure Google can help you out on that one.

Water Puppy flow rate is 6.3 gpm and the Ballast Puppy's flow rate is 11 gpm.
