What does every one use for line. I have been pricing every thing out and I have a motor but the line is killing me. I work for a company that makes trailer hitches so the frame is cake and the rest of the parts are not that bad as long as I use a CC to start. The line is doubling my build cost is there a cheep line to use?

most people use this, not super expensive, and its strong as hell. it comes in a 600 foot spool, if you want more then that, you have to tie it together.
ive been using it since like may, and have had no problems, no signs of ware. just fading, but that was expected since mine is used in salt water 95% of the time

I built my own winch from a lot of info and help from David Christman. It cost be about $650. I was able to get a lot of the materials/parts for free from my father.

For whatever reason the IMG tag wouldn't work, perhaps my pics are too big but here's the direct links.

so true, all those hours building it, and knowing that the machine pulling you was built with your own hands is an awesome feeling. i think it makes you appreciate it much more.

Has any one built there own spool that releases? I am thinking of making my spool with a pin that I could pull so it can spin on the axle.

i'm planning on making my winch releaseable this summer. the big thing i've found it to make the sprocket releaseable instead of the spool, but the collar on the sprocket has to be pretty thick and bulky otherwise the torque from the motor will either break the pin or crack the collar.

I made mine a releasing spool and the collar on mine is 1/4" thick and I haven't had any problems yet

what tav2 did you use?

is it necessary to have a tav, or can you just use the sprocket on the engine and one for the spool?
