I saw the story on the Malibu blog about the folks that surprised their dad/husband with a Malibu Wakesetter for Christmas and I thought it would be a cool topic for our discussion board.

Has anyone ever gotten a boat for a gift? If so, tell the story...

Wasn't there somebody who got a boat for Father's Day here on wakeworld? I think I remember reading about that a few years back.

I either give or get a boat for most holidays. It's the gift that keeps on giving. I mean, really, who doesn't want a boat? Not anyone I know. Occasionally I'll mix it up with a tow vehicle or lake house.

What ever happened to that boat the Spy gave away a long time ago? Does anyone know who has it now?

David, somebody did win it. I think it was on Spy's website or Alliance. It was one of the two.

i got a bu vlx last for christmas.. but i got it in the summer it was the best and my parents are so rad... i killed my sanger, basically rode it to the ground. i was sitting around unable to wakeboard for like a 2 months and my dad just one day was like lets go look at some boats. i thought he was just bs me. so we went to a malibu dealer because i love the boats. right when i walked in he was like what boat do you like, i loved the vlx wake so i naturally told him that one. a sales dude walks up and my dad was like tell him all the features you want... right then i knew my dad wasnt bs anymore.lol my parents are the greatest a boy could ask for:-)seriously i am so greatful for everything, you dont even know.... i think im going to drive home and give them a hug now.lol

My wife surprised me on my 30th birthday with a 2006 Centurion Avalanche. I had been in the shop looking at the boat dreaming for months. I had no idea she had done it.

Apparently, she went through all the paperwork and signed the deal in February awaiting my birthday in April. Good thing I don't pay much attention to the finances, that's her bag. So that meant that everyone in the shop that had seen me drool over the boat knowing that I really already owned it but they didn't say a word.

They pulled the wool over my eyes for sure. We lined up "the first ride of the season" on my birthday. We were on the boat that I loved, but I thought the previous owners were allowing us to demo the boat (we have a relationship with the previous owners and the dealership so it wasn't too far fetched). They passed out new 2007 t-shirts for our crew. Mine was the last one in the bag, but didn't look like everyone else's.

The front of the T-shirt reads: It's my 30th Birthday...

And here we are just a little while after I realized I owned THAT boat!!

That is a great story and I think the boat looks great too. I have always liked black and a bright green.

In the past 15 years or so, I have done 4 "XMas Morning Driveway Deliveries"....2 ski boats, one family runabout, and a fish boat.

Pretty cool playing santa on those days......
