Hey guys, Ive had a search through the forums for advice on weighting a 2001 nautique, but i could only find a couple of threads.
From what I did see, I was thinking that 2 600lbs Sacs, one either side of the engine, and 300 lbs in lead bars under the bow seemed about a good amount to go with... What do you think of that? Is it a good plan for placement, will I need more weight to create a good wake or does that sound ok?

If anyone has any pictures, or advice I would appreciate it. Cheers!

Here is one way. Eventually I built an enclosure for the rear tank but this is a good way to do it. 2001's like weight in the middle, just like all sport nautiques and 95-06 super sport/210's

You might have trouble fitting 600lb sacks on either side of the engine.

Weight in the back makes the wake steep
Weight in the front makes it more mellow

Just decide which way you like it and put as much weight in it as you can.

I run 440s on both sides of the motor and 100 lb of lead in th tip of the nose. It makes a nice wake without repropping.

Your simplest and most effective system I think would be a Fly High Pro X Series 750 on each side of the engine. But if you like the interior room, do a 750 where the rear seat is now and a Fly High 580 width wise under the bow.

750's are a bit big for the sides... Put's a lot of pressure on the motor box when filled up (if you can even fill them all the way.

I run 300lbs. in the nose, 500x2 on either side of the engine and 500-750 in the back (I fill the back if I have passengers in the front... too much in the back and you get a curb to crash into... way way vertical wake).

Here's a recent pic w/around 2100lbs. total ballast. 22mph @ 70':

funny how that wake blows some of the new 80k boats away. not a v-drive it must suck?

Yeah come to think of it, those 750 are a bit wide to run next to the motor. I've seen a guy run those Launch Pad 540 recliners and they seem to fit perfect next to the motor. And last time I looked on Wakeside, they were on sale for $50 a piece.

ProX V-Drive Sacs on the Sides. ProX 750 in the rear.

Fits well, and perfect weight as long as you have about 200-300 lbs. in the front.

im running the same exaxt set up as Fro-Z, i dont even take out the back seat. it fits for me between the back seat and the engine cover just fine. this puts the weight a lil farther forward to help with the curb effect. we can also tell a huge difference in having the side sacs up against the rear sear vs. back against the rear sac. its only like a foot difference but i really prefer as much weight forward as possible when dealing with a totally full 750 pounder in the back. as for the front, i have 150 pounds in free weights and i plumbed in 150 launch pad sac up there thats sitting on its own little table that goes width wise across the front.

I've heard that the 540 prop is better for 351 2001s and the 5542 for the 302s? Can anyone confirm this?

With the stock prop I'm running 400 on the sides and have about 50lbs of weight in the bow. (similar to Jon). If we only have three people we'll scoot the side sacs back a little further and throw a sack in front of the engine box. It's awkward but works.

When I first started using my 2001 I just threw an ice chest full of water in the back. Those were the days!

Also, you may want to get "boxes" to go over your side sacks. My buddy welded me two that are more open metal frames with carpeted wood on top. It's so nice though for moving around.

1500 pounds tanks in the back, currently got 200 pounds of lead and a big battery in the front but it needs another 200 pounds in the front to make it really nice. Might work on a tank over winter.

542 is better for a lot of weight and the 540 is better for crossover from what i was told. that was for the 351 with 1 to 1 transmission

Darren- is that one tank or three different tanks? Also, is it made of wood or aluminum?

Two L-shaped tanks which form a U around the motor. The carpet is held on the tanks with snaps. The piece of ply is a pattern for a drop in seat base. I made the tanks out of ply & glassed them internally.

I thought you were selling her... Too much work to flick? It is a really nicely done boat.

Never noticed those pieces that hook together on the ends of the tanks, that's cool. Kiwi ingenuity to the max.

542 for wakeboarding. The 542 by acme was the best upgrade ever for our 2001.
